A new climate assessment released Tuesday by a group of scientists from the University of Vermont says the state is getting warmer and wetter and the changes pose long-term challenges for the state.
Vermont is expected to lose around 70 species of birds, while moose numbers will decline and populations of white tailed deer will increase due to rising temperatures in the coming years, the report said.
The study found that since 1900, average Vermont temperatures have increased by nearly 2 degrees and precipitation has increased by 21%.
Despite the warming climate, Vermont will remain attractive as a tourist destination. The state can expect to see an increase in summer “seasonal climate refugees” as rising temperatures prompt people to flee extreme summer heat in other parts of the country.
The study recommends greater planning and investment in infrastructure for managing water, storm water and irrigation.
“We want to help people to feel more prepared, to make better decisions – and be more resilient to climate change,” Joshua Faulkner of UVM’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and UVM Extension said in a statement.
To study also recommends steep reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. Electrifying transportation and heating can significantly reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that would be emitted in Vermont.

I love it when the AP talks dirty.

Given that in the past VT was covered almost completely by a 1 mile thick sheet of ice, I would say it is and has been obvious that VT is getting warmer.
What were all those cavemen doing that caused that giant melt off?
Surrounding states normal.
Anyone, like myself, who’s hiked the Appalachian Trail knows Vermont is know as “Vermud” for a reason.
And it’s been called that since well before the global warming crowd came along…
That's why I stay in high country, Mt. Katahdin
“seasonal climate refugees” — LOLOL. Give me a break. What they mean is summer vacationers and tourists.
Please tell us the names of the seasons in “Vermud.”
Why would a 2 degree difference make species go extinct? What difference does it make to a moose if the average temperature is 56 degrees or 58 degrees?
No. Solar activity indicates RECORD COLD is coming. There will be famine, war, and ANOTHER pandemic.
Anywhere in New England, warmer and wetter can only be good.
Last winter, winter, late winter and next winter
The mooses from Vermont have done gone and swum n`relocated across Lake Champlain to the NY side. We got mooses comin out our ears here. 50 years ago there were zero mooses here. They wuz all in Maine mooseville,,...
These “scientists’ evidently never heard of animal MIGRATION. duuuh and they probably never have gone out and talked to the HUNTERS..We are getting mooses warnings here now which we have never heard of before. The mooses are escaping the liberal Vermont woods for the Republican North Country coz they heard Baldwin was in Middlebury town with a gun.... Ever hear of the Moose Party? In Adirondacks towns, We got bears comin out of our closets here too and big cougars come out at night lookin for chickens on my farm at night...Them wolves ain`t asceard neither nohow to come right up to the porch..n standin there with them big red eyes beggin for a chicken...

How did CO2 Pollution go from Causing an ICE AGE that was going to decimate the planet in the 1970’s suddenly reverse course and change to Heating up the Planet in 1983??
Was it a Miracle?
is CO2 a Magical Gas?
Yes, you can see how they're fleeing out of Florida.
Well played sir!
It would be great if CT would get warmer and wetter.
Unfortunately, the climate “experts” have a track record of being full of &^%$.
AP = Agitation and Propaganda
