“I’m still surprised that some people were surprised when I pointed to the fact that if a highway was built for the purpose of dividing a white and a black neighborhood, or if an underpass was constructed such that a bus carrying mostly black and Puerto Rican kids to a beach — or that would have been — in New York was designed too low for it to pass by, that that obviously reflects racism that went into those design choices,” Buttigieg responded.
“I don’t think we have anything to lose by confronting that simple reality,” he added. “And I think we have everything to gain by acknowledging it and then dealing with it, which is why the Reconnecting Communities — that billion dollars — is something we want to get to work right away putting to work.”
The exchange was met with scorn by conservatives like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).
“The roads are racist,” he tweeted. “We must get rid of roads.”
“You see, we Hispanics are very, very tall, and we need rich, woke Dems to raise the bridges for us,” he said in a follow-up tweet. “Without Pete’s condescending help, there’s no way we can get to the beach.”
Radio host Chris Krok also weighed in, saying, “Can’t you just FEEL the racism when you drive on some of these roads? I know I can.”
Others said the critics were oversimplifying the issue, with many linking the discussion to Robert Caro’s book “The Power Broker,” which outlines New York City master builder Robert Moses’ alleged orders to build bridges low to prevent easy travel to and from Long Island beaches.

and let’s not forget any roads with the word Plantation in them. Believe it or not, the BLM group in my area was going after renaming all roads, neighborhoods, etc with the word Plantation in it.
When people have time to worry about this kind of idiocy, it shows their life is entirely too easy.
The Biden administration is working on fixing that situation.
Arizona uses red sand in their highways so they can feel like they’re driving over Indians every time they go for a long drive.
While they’ve taken this way beyond a bridge too far...
During highway and bypass planning the cheapest way is through lower cost areas - that in the 50’s & 60’s was older neighborhoods with lower income people.
They need to be asked the question “If you were planning the route where would you have put it - taking into consideration cost?”
Blacktop versus cement finishing?!
That's when we stopped being Irish or German or Italian Americans and became Whites.
Trees are racist.
Air is racist.
Flowers are racist.
Bees are racist.
Butterflies are racist.
Clouds are racist.
Ladders are racist.
Cement is racist.
Butter is racist.
etc etc etc...

Good one
So now they’re going to start digging up the roads? (Sorry, I didn’t read the article because it’s just so much dreck.) I guess it should be pointed out that the Western railroads were built by immigrant Chinese who were little more than slaves. So we can pull up the train tracks also.. good luck getting all the imported Chinese crap to Walmarts across the land with no roads and no trains. (Trains to Nowhere exempted, of course.)
If it wasn’t for the slums, where would they put the truck routes?
Buttboygeig stole tax dollars for parental leave he was not entitled to......as the supply chain buildup threatens American kids Christmas.
So Geiger has to suck “oops” up to resurrect himself from oblivion.
And he just may have reached that lofty goal.
Does blacktop need to be black?
