There is a "tree equity" movement by progressives. The actual problem is that black neighborhood homeowners don't spend the money needed to maintain shade trees. When the limbs fall on their cars they cut the trees down. They don't rake the leaves, keep them trimmed of dead wood, fertilize them, or stay off the roots (blacks park on their lawn for some bizarre reason).

I live in Memphis which is 87% black. I spend approximately $1,400 per year on my trees. When I have had to cut a tree I replaced it with a new tree as big as the landscaper can plant. They run $600~$800 each.

Around the cost of new car rims. If you cut down a mature shade tree your air conditioning bills will double.

Drove thru there a few years ago. Definitely the dirtiest town I have ever seen. The amount of schizz on the roadsides was disgusting. Even out by the FedEx complex.
