Worker closing down Baldwin’s ‘Rust’ set bitten by poisonous spider, may lose arm

A production worker on Alec Baldwin’s tragedy-marred flick “Rust” was bitten by a poisonous spider while helping to close down the set after its fatal accidental shooting — and may now lose his arm.

Lamp operator and pipe rigger Jason Miller was bitten by a venomous brown recluse while helping wrap up film production after Baldwin shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on Oct. 21, Sky News said.

A JustGiving fundraising page said Miller has experienced necrosis of his arm and sepsis as a result of the bite.

“He has been hospitalized and endured multiple surgeries each day as doctors do their best to stop the infection and try to save his arm from amputation,” the page says, according to Sky News.

A bad luck production, for sure. Is this workmen's comp or another lawsuit against arec ballwin or both?

The silver lining in the cloud is the fact he didn’t lose his life.

Never, Never, NEVER search the Internet for "Brown Recluse Spider Bite Images"...

(I know, that isn't a Brown Recluse, but you get the idea)

Brown recluses are indeed a menace - have seen them in my home. One does not die or lose limbs from their bites though. They may if they do not treat the infection that comes from necrosis that the venom causes.

I used to work with a guy who had gotten bitten by a brown recluse on his thumb.

Doctors tried all sorts of treatments, finally got to the point of “If this one doesn’t work, we’re going to have to amputate your thumb”.

Fortunately, that last treatment worked.

I can’t comment on your friends situation. The bites are dangerous. But 90% of bites are not much worse than a mesquito bite. I put glue traps around my house a few years ago, got a few over a few months and have not seen them since. Good riddance.

First question?

Was he vaccinated for Covid19? Yes, I am serious.

Second question, what treatment was he given immediately after the spider bite?

I’ve been bitten by Brown Recluse spider 2 times. First time, I put a nitro patch on the bite before I could get to the doctor. The doctor asked how long ago I had the bite, I told him 1-1/2 days. He said it looked much older than what I said. he cut a little divit out of the bite area and it cleared up rapidly. Nitro opens up the blood vessels around the bite and allows the body to remove the poison. The reason the bite is dangerous, it gets infected and gets worse because the venom seals access to the blood.

The second time I did not have a nitro patch available but had some nitro pills. I cut 1/4 of a nitro pill, placed it on top of the bite and put one drop of water on it and a Bandaide on it. Repeated again in a day. It healed perfectly with no further treatment. Did not go to Doctor.

There is a doctor near Ft. Worth that has been using that treatment for 15 years and 100% success. Even on old infected wounds.

I’ve never heard of anyone loosing a limb that quickly.

Lol! ..Showing the absolute worst case scenario.
Nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide!
Soundtrack might have that loud brassy music heard in the Batman TV series, Mannix or Austin Powers movies.

If this (real life) part were in a screenplay the studio would toss out the whole thing as a bad try at a movie plot. The replacement of the stunt blank with a a real round was already used on “Who Killed the World’s Greatest Chef?” on Burke’s Law with Gene Barry in 1995. It was pushing credulity then.

Now to add the snake bite for audience interest as the story sags is like a critic (fictional himself) said on Matlock:
“The author would have to produce a mighty effort of improvement in order to even achieve having his play called amateurish.”

Venomous.

Correct. Things that harm you (natural or manmade) if you ingest them are poisonous. Snakes, spiders, Lionfish, etc., that that bite or sting you to ill effect are venomous.
