White House says DOJ will determine amount of payouts to migrant families

A senior White House adviser said the Justice Department will set the amount of compensation if it deems that paying migrants separated from their families will save taxpayers money — payments that run as much as $450,000 or more.

“If the DOJ determines that it saves the taxpayers money and it rights a wrong, then they will make the determination that is necessary and I would assume if they make a determination, they’ll come up with what they think is an adequate dollar amount,” Cedric Richmond said on “Fox News Sunday.”

Richmond said the Justice Department is making its decision independently of the White House.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the average demand in each lawsuit adds up to approximately $3.4 million per family, while the settlement offer from the Biden administration amounts to around $450,000 per person and close to $1 million per family.

Change the maximum amount to 500 PESOS, and I’d agree. (That’s about 25 USD at the current rate).

And be sure to include “free” transportation to the nearest border.

Agree; where the hell is the Republican “leadership” in the Senate? At least there are some like Cruz and the guy from Missouri but the rest of them are silent while this steal of taxpayer money proceeds, led by a senile fool of a gasbag “president”. They were quick enough to back the steal that is the “infrastructure” bill; why are they so quiet now??

Border patrol now say there are mostly Venzuelians coming in than S. Americans. They fly to Mexico and then cross over.

We are so much loosing the fabric of our country every day! And stupid American women will be marrying these people as well.

Republicans should make it plainly clear that a future House run by Republicans will doubly offset any so-called "settlements" made by the DoJ for this purpose, from operational funds earmarked for the Department of Justice. If the total settlements equals $1 billion, a DoJ budget increase will NOT occur and the static budget will be REDUCED by $2 billion from the previous year.

The R House should also plan to zero out the operations budget for any Court which rules against the House for this action.

I am incensed about this. I wish there were some legal way I could stop it.

We need a class suit against the administration and jointly against Brandon and the Congress for devaluating our citizenships.

The legal costs are secondary given the precedent being set. Think of all the money DOJ could save not prosecuting the J6 trespassers.

In 1988 Japanese that had been sent to internment camps were given $20k apiece and only after Congress passed the Civil Liberties Act which had been campaigned for by the Japanese American community for over a decade. They were true victims, had not broken any laws.
This giveaway is totally illegal.

No, not $450,000.

It will only be $5,000 per day.

So, if they were separated for 90 days...

This how you do obfuscation by semantics.

Airplane tickets back to where they came from is all they should get.

Exactly. We didn’t ask them to come here. We should not be rewarding criminals for breaking the law.

These destructive Democrats are pure evil.
