A new Marist College poll this week found Kathy Hochul is the current frontrunner for next year’s gubernatorial election, but Rep. Lee Zeldin of eastern Long Island now has support from nearly all state Republican leaders.
That’s after Zeldin secured the Chemung County Republican Committee endorsement this week.
However, Hofstra University Political Scientist Craig Burnett said Zeldin will face long odds against Hochul, as no amount of GOP support can erase Zeldin’s image as a Trump ally in a highly Democratic New York.

“In the case of governor, that has to be somebody who can appeal to a fairly broad base of people and one that can actually appeal to a more liberal voter," he said, "and that’s where I actually think that he runs into problems.”
Zeldin seems willing to take the risk because he would lose his congressional seat if he continues to run for governor.

The last time I saw a statistic on Political Science Professors, it indicated that 90% voted 'D' and 9% voted LEFT and that was around 2000, I think. So taking advice from such is such a good idea, right?
As I noted, this is from an NPR station. Leftist propaganda is expected.
Ronald Reagan couldn’t be elected governor of NY. I’d guess only about 20% of NY voters are actual conservatives or republicans (using the traditional definition). About another 20% think they’re republicans, but if they were in Texas they’d be called “democrats”. About 20% (minimum) are absolute morons. If the Presidential election was held next week, Biden would carry NY again by 15 points.
Ah, I see the New York GOP has already selected next year’s loser for us!
Ronald Reagan would never make it because he would never be ‘selected’ by the New York GOP party,
Which is, and has long been, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the NY Democrat party.
They’re just Demoncrats under an assumed name.
What’s the problem with Zeldin?
No problem.
Hofstra University Political Scientist Craig Burnett ... “In the case of governor, that has to be somebody who can appeal to a fairly broad base of people and one that can actually appeal to a more liberal voter,"
The terms "broad base of people" and "more liberal voter" are polar opposites.
