Attack of Japan’s Killer WWII Balloons, May 5, 2015
Japan’s bizarre WWII plan to bomb the continental U.S. by high-altitude balloons claimed its first and only victims, an Oregon church group, 70 years ago.
Due to inefficiency it has to be spread out. An explosive drone taking out a 100 MW plant will halt a lot more power production than an army of drones hitting solar panels. Wind is less diffuse and probably easier to kill with cheapo drones but will still require a lot of drones.
We're probably talking 50 years to really get going and in that timeframe there will be even better alternatives.
Already exists: solar fuel.

A great concern. Why this hasn’t been done is negligence of the highest order. Decades pass and nada. Apparently we need a cascading catastrophe-—the consequential magnitude of which is on few citizen’s radar.

The article doesn’t say whether it was external or domestic terrorism. Was anyone traced or caught? Do you have any theories?
Because We were taught to not be STUPID, use Common Sense and if needed ask for Help. We were also taught Basic Safety Rules.
I really enjoyed Our weekend Camping Trips. One time We were granted use of a Ranchers property that had a river on it. On the way to the location on Friday afternoon and it rained so hard we had to pull over and stop on the shoulder until the storm passes. The windshield wipers could not keep the windshield clear enough to keep driving.
We got to the campsite and setup, made dinner and went to sleep. It rained all night and cleared off by morning. Saturday We went about the day earning Merit Badges, swimming in the river, improving Camp, etc. About 4:30pm the Rancher showed up with word that the river was headed to Flood Stage and we must Break Camp because the whole Campsite will be Flooding in about 45 minutes to an hour.
The Rancher felt bad because we had to bail out early and He led all 57 of Us to a Restaurant in Town and Ordered Huge Double Chili Cheeseburgers open faced, Fries and Soda !!!
After dinner we all Thanked Him for everything He did for us and we headed home.
Great memories for you.
I also have a boatload of them on my way to Eagle Scout in Nov ‘63.
the article is all the info released to public as of yesterday.
Only theory I have is that perhaps it was a probing attempt. It failed.

Not just cars, but the very trucks that transport all kinds of goods/parts across our country. [1].

Anyone with any rudimentary knowledge of how an electrical system works, would know that a fairly decent sized drone targeted at a transformer in a substation would do tremendous damage at worst, temporary large outages at best.
