Youngkin's Victory Goes Beyond Virginia

My how quickly things can change with the right message and the right messenger.

Glen Youngkin's impressive victory over Democrat re-tread Terry McAuliffe in the race for Virginia governor ought to be a reminder that kindness wins over name-calling and that issues are more important than personality.

Parents in Virginia saw the curtain pulled back on the indoctrination of values counter to their own in public schools. McAuliffe denied Critical Race Theory (CRT) was being taught in public schools, but a visit to the Virginia Department of Education web page shows three different instances in which it was promoted, including back in 2015 when McAuliffe was governor. The site also uses the term "white fragility" and references a presentation that encourages teachers to "embrace Critical Race Theory" in "order to re-engineer attitudes and belief systems." The constant focus on race, class and division is wearing thin and it would appear, at least in Virginia, that many voters have tired of it.

Wall Street Journal columnist Holman Jenkins wrote it's time for Democrats to "retire the white sheets." Can we move on from divide and conquer in favor of promoting togetherness as Americans? In his victory speech that is what Youngkin did, speaking less about himself and more about his fellow Virginians and fellow Americans. Donald Trump take note.

Lt. Governor-elect Winsome Sears achieved historical success once before when in 2002 she became the first Black Republican woman elected to the House of Delegates, defeating a 20-year incumbent Democrat. Her victory is a slap in the face to those Democrats who are the real racists when they keep pitting us against each other. In social media posts and in campaign mailers, there was a photo of Sears carrying a rifle, apparently to demonstrate her support for the Second Amendment. This played well in rural Virginia.

It was a clean sweep for Republicans as they also took back the office of attorney general and flipped the House of Delegates from Democrat to a GOP majority. Suddenly all those claims that Virginia has turned irreversibly blue seemed to have been wishful thinking by Democrats and the media, which kept promoting it as a state lost forever to Republicans. Independents, who helped Joe Biden win the state by 10 points last year, moved in large numbers to Youngkin.

Vice President Kamala Harris, who made a video targeting Virginia's black church members, urging them to vote for McAuliffe, predicted before the election that results in Virginia would forecast what next year's congressional races will look like, as well as the 2024 presidential contest. Republicans can only wish she has the gift of prophecy.

The New Jersey governor's race is neck and neck at this writing, another shock to Democrats in a deeply blue state. And Minneapolis voters, apparently, took a sanity pill and refused to cancel their police department, despite millions of dollars that poured into the city from left-wing groups, most of them outside the city and state.

Youngkin perfectly positioned himself when it came to Trump and his supporters. He did not reject Trump's endorsement, but neither did he dwell on it, or ask the former president to campaign for him. Those rural voters who voted for Trump appeared comfortable voting for Youngkin. Will that strategy work elsewhere? It might. A lot depends on whether Trump runs in 2024.

Youngkin and his administration will be judged on whether they are able to fulfill their promises, which is as it should be. Meanwhile for Virginia Republicans, happy days are here again, at least for now.

Cal Thomas is an honorable man, but he don’t get it. It was the name-calling and Stasi tactics of the Dems in power that led to the righteous anger and openly-expressed disgust among the majority of Virginians in particular and Americans in general.

In Christian terms, this isn’t the martyrs praying in the middle of the Coliseum while the lions are sent to eat them; this is Jesus making a whip and using it to whip the moneychangers and overthrow their filthy tables. It’s not St. Francis of Assisi loving the animals; it’s St. Francis Xavier stirring up the samurai. Oh Lord, for a REAL Francis, a Xavier Francis to boldly proclaim the truth to the world!

P.S. They weren’t voting for Youngkin; they were voting against Saul Alinsky and all his living demonic disciples, including and especially the useful idiot Brandon. As Yamamoto is supposed to have put it, the Dems have awakened a sleeping tiger, and filled him with a terrible resolve.

FALLS CHURCH. Va. — A northern Virginia school system said it is removing two books from school libraries, including an illustrated memoir that contains explicit illustrations of sexual encounters involving children, after a parent expressed concern about them at a school board meeting.

Stacy Langton, a parent in the Fairfax County school system, questioned the school board at a public meeting Thursday about the books’ availability in high school libraries. As she quoted from explicit passages in the book, a school board member interrupted her and chastised her for using explicit language.

Another school board member defended the books by saying they are available only in high school libraries, not in grade schools.

On Friday, the school system initially said it was conducting a review. Later in the day, it said it was pulling “Gender Queer” by Maia Kobabe and “Lawn Boy” by Jonathan Evison from circulation pending a more detailed reviewe.

Two committees made up of staff, students and parents will assess both books and make recommendations to the assistant superintendent of instructional services “who will make a final decision as to whether FCPS continues to provide access to these books in our high school libraries,” the school system said

“Gender Queer” publisher Oni Press issued a statement Friday saying that limiting the book’s availability is “short-sighted and reactionary.”

“Oni Press supports Maia Kobabe for the truth and strength in sharing eir story, and hope to be a home for others who want to share their own stories with the world. The fact is, GENDER QUEER is an important, timely piece of work that serves as an invaluable resource for not only those that identity as nonbinary or genderqueer, but for people looking to understand what that means.”

Online inventory systems showed both books were widely available throughout high school libraries in the Fairfax County system. One school, Robinson Secondary, serves grades 7-12.

Indeed, one or both books are available in school systems throughout the region, including Loudoun County, Arlington County, Alexandria and Montgomery County, Maryland, schools, according to online catalogs.

Langton, in an interview Friday, said she had never spoken up at a school board meeting before, but the books were so obscene that she had to speak up.

She said she heard about the books earlier this month at a school board meeting in Texas, and became curious whether they were available. Sure enough, the books her in her son’s school library.

The books “are actually so much worse than I ever would have imagined. So much worse,” she said.

“Gender Queer,” an illustrated memoir, contains explicit illustrations of oral sex and masturbation. The novel “Lawn Boy” contains graphic descriptions of sex between men and children. Both books were previous winners of the American Library Association’s Alex Awards, which each year recognize “ten books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults ages 12 through 18.”

Langton said the fact that school board members felt compelled to interrupt her when she read graphic passages aloud illustrates her point about the books’ inappropriate nature.

“I was very angry that they cut me off,” she said.

The controversy is the latest to befuddle Fairfax County’s school board, and other across Virginia and the country as conservative parents object to masks in schools, anti-racism curriculum, and policy changes requiring transgender students be referred to by their preferred pronouns.

Asra Nomani, who attended Thursday’s meeting and serves as vice president of strategy and investigations at Parents Defending Education, a recently formed advocacy group, said the high-handed response from the school board to Langton’s concerns reflects the divide between activist school board members and parents.

“It’s very unfair to demonize and marginalize parents, because they have serious concerns,” Nomani said.

One school board member, Karl Frisch, offered a defense of sorts on Twitter, saying Thursday night that “nothing will disrupt our Board’s commitment to LGBTQIA+ students, families and staff. Nothing.”

But he was not explicit about whether his tweet was in response to Langton’s comments.

He declined comment.

Seems to me the Punk spent an inordinate amount of speech degrading Trump, his supporters, the values of mainstream Americans.

Donald is not perfect, but journalists sure like to point out his supposed faults, while ignoring the tyrant in each of the Democrat personalities. McAuliffe- parents should not be involved in child’s education, Many Dem governors...Lock it down tight....Biden....Vaxx everyone or else....Cuomo......shoving infected people into nursing homes.

A concerned mom says she’s filed a police report against North Kingstown High School in North Kingstown, Rhode Island for promoting a book with gay pornography to minors in the school library.

The pornographic book was published by Lion Forge Comics and is titled “Gender Queer: A Memoir.” It was authored and illustrated by Maia Kobabe, who uses the made-up pronouns of e/em/eir and whose work focuses on “anti-fascism,” according to a description on Amazon.

Nicole Solas, a resident of South Kingstown and mom of a kindergartener, posted a picture of the book in a display case on Twitter and highlighted the pornographic images contained between the covers. Solas also posted an image of the typed-out report that she says she sent to police, writing that she is submitting “evidence of distribution of pornography at North Kingstown High School” and that the book was made “available to minor children.”

“Gender Queer” is also highlighted in the library of East Greenwich High School, another school in Rhode Island, prompting Solas to call for the prosecution of the school employees who are responsible for its distribution.

The book, which is currently ranked no. 11 in Amazon’s “LGBTQ+ Graphic Novels” section, features discussion of gay sexual fantasies and is incredibly graphic, including scenes of gay men having sex and a scene of one man performing oral sex on another.(snip)

The book was even given the “Alex Award” in 2020 by the Young Adult Library Services Association, a subdivision of the American Library Association. The award is specifically given out to books that “have special appeal” to those “ages 12 through 18.”

I would disagree. I don’t think Cal Thomas missed the point, I think he is just looking at some components of it and focusing on those which are different from the ones you looked at.

Your points are completely valid too. His viewing prism and your viewing prism are not mutually exclusive, they are different sides of the same coin and both equally valid, in my opinion.

I agree with Cal here, and would point to my state of FL as the example. In the present war against the left, Trump is Patton, FL governor DeSantis is Bradley--and Youngkin could be another Bradley, though it will take some time in office to see for certain. For the sake of VA and the nation, I hope so.

Can anyone identify any issue that Youngkin brought up that was not originally espoused by Trump?

The MSM would always lead off with the Youngkin win as “in a state that Biden won by ten points over Trump.” In truth, a vote for Youngkin Tuesday was a vote for Trump.

They invariably end up with Liberal winners, across the board. The Liberal winners are so far less than ‘perfect’ that they are openly criminal.... but the GOP doesn’t mind at all. They think THEIR smug rejection of people like Trump saves us from imperfect Conservatives or Republicans!!
