The EU was formed so that the various and some smaller European countries would have more clout in worldwide affairs. But these independent countries became dependent, very dependent. They gave the central EU government draconian powers which does not sit well with Poland and Hungry. The Clinton administration and Madeline Albright played a role in shaping the highly centralized EU. After the USSR was disbanded the US was the only major world power and the Clintonistas felt that was not good for the world, hence the EU.
President Trump would be supporting and standing up for Poland against the decadent EU.
