MINNEAPOLIS (Reuters) - Angela Harrelson points toward a blue angel painted on the pavement, marking the spot where a Minneapolis police officer murdered her nephew George Floyd and ignited a national police reform movement.

~~~SNIP~~~
On Tuesday, Minneapolis voters get to decide just how different their city's approach to policing should be. A ballot question asks residents whether they want to replace the police department with a new department of public safety, in the first big electoral test of reform efforts sparked by Floyd's May 2020
~~~

Supporters insist police would remain on their jobs, though perhaps in smaller numbers. They say the change would mean approaching safety in a holistic manner, including addressing the root causes of crime before it takes place.

All this would be great if criminals would just obey the laws!

Silly goose! A kangaroo court and rigged jury decided negligent homicide despite the report of a Democrat County Coroner.

Please...vote yes...defund the police and embrace the “new way” of stopping crime before it happens.

Let everyone witness first hand the success of Progressive Law Enforcement.

They will deserve everything that is coming their way.

And they will get precisely zero sympathy from me.

I think they should stay the course and declare Minneapolis a total crime sanctuary city. They need to go all in on hug-a-thug and show the world what a great idea it is!

I hope Minneapolis goes ahead and approved the ballot measure, then we’ll what the outcome is, I believe it will total chaos and societal break down, but maybe I’m wrong....

It sure would make for a great experiment.

And as a side note, if I had any money laying around I’d invest in private security companies that work in Minneapolis. Those guys are going to have more work than they can handle.

No, you are core correct. You will see vigilante justice rise up as it did before police departments were enacted. Worse, you will see neighborhood patrol groups rise and see revenge. Lynching will be back in style.

George murdered himself by overdosing on drugs.

Any time the government or a liberal group says they are going to “address root causes” of anything, you KNOW the effort is doomed to failure. Actually, not just failure, but it will make the problem ten times worse.

How many here remember LBJ and the Dems yammering on and on in the 1960s about “addressing the root causes of poverty”?

It will. The problem is that Leftists don’t learn from the outcome of such experiments. Like 30 years after the fall of the Soviet Union (& other failed socialist states), there seem to be more commies than ever, especially in the US.

Their mantra is the REAL communism has NEVER been tried. And if only they had really SMART people running things, it would work out fine. So, basically, for Leftists, hubris will always trump evidence and facts.

I tend to agree with you. Properties will go up quickly on sale, and within 3 months...the decreasing cost problem will arise. Some might just settle on living 20 to 30 miles out of town...still working in the city. It’ll develop like Birmingham, Alabama...where the majority of the work force don’t live in the city. City tax revenue? It’ll be seen as decreasing, and the city wouldn’t be able to fund a full police or fire department anyway.
