You don’t “tell investors” of a potential deal because it might never happen.

If I'm reading the story right Trump didn't do anything illegal. It would be the SPAC and it's executives who violated securities laws, if the laws were violated to begin with.

That’s got virtually nothing to do with Trump. It was the SPAC management team that failed to inform investors. I doubt many of them cared given how the stock zoomed some 1000% the next 2 days.
May have “skirted” as in “fully complied with, but the NY Slimes cannot come up with any argument that they actually violated any” securities laws.
