New York police have arrested a man in connection with the vandalism of a newly-unveiled statue of George Floyd earlier this month.
The New York City Police Department Hate Crimes Task Force announced on Monday that it had charged 37-year-old Micah Beals of Manhattan with second-degree criminal mischief.
Beals' attorney, Rebecca Heinsen of Legal Aid Society, declined to comment on the arrest or charge.
Outlets including Newsweek and People report that Beals is an actor who goes by the stage name Micah Femia. He appeared in the 2013 movie Pop Star as well as one 2011 episode of NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation and a 2005 episode of CSI: NY, according to IMDb.
He was also arrested under his stage name in Washington, D.C., for violating curfew on Jan. 7, according to data from the Metropolitan Police Department.
Video of the Oct. 3 incident shows a man on a skateboard tossing grey paint on the face of the statue, which had recently arrived in Manhattan's Union Square Park as part of a touring art installation called SEEINJUSTICE.

.
I wonder if the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force ever got called in to arrest those people defacing the Christopher Columbus statue at Columbus Circle?
Very certain this is another Juicy Smollet. Of course everybody would assume a hateful conservative was the vandal, didn’t expect to get caught.
At the risk of being pedantic-the person who created that funny graphic needs a grammar check-it should say “I can BREATHE”-not “breath”...
He’d be better off if he had “accidentally” shot a cinematographer and a director.
And where they put that statue of Floyd is the same park they put up the naked statue of Trump and invited people to spit on it. I hate that city with a passion, I grew up there in Queens and it’s been totally destroyed by the leftist a-holes from out of state.
And unless he repents and grovels and apologizes PROFUSELY, he’ll never work in that town again.
It wasn’t a complete protest.
No police cars were burned or stores looted.
He wouldn’t be charged with any crimes had it been a complete protest.
So no downside? If I owned Hell and New York city I would live in Hell and rent out NYC.
New York and Hollywood, I meant.
