Trump: Truth Social to take on censorship of ‘self-righteous scolds’
The Hill via newsbreak.com ^ | 10/28/21 | Monique Beals

Truth Social, the new social media platform that Donald Trump says he is rolling out, will combat censorship and the “self-righteous scolds and self-appointed arbiters” who the former president said decide what everyone else is allowed to “think, say, share, and do.”

The ex-president, who was banned from Twitter after a mob of his supporters fueled by false claims about last year’s election invaded the Capitol to stop the Electoral College vote certification, in a lengthy statement framed his effort as an attack on Big Tech and what he said was its censorship.

“The corruption of these platforms cannot be ignored,” Trump said in a statement issued by Trump Media & Technology Group. “We have fallen far down the ‘slippery slope’ of censorship in our country, and the topics that Americans are increasingly forbidden to debate are among the most important issues of our day.”

“This wildly aggressive censorship and “cancel-culture” is not only un-American—it has direct, real-world consequences,” Trump added.

Trump, who claimed he might be the “only person in America with the megaphone, the resources, the experience, and the desire” to create this platform, argued Truth Social was a necessary step in the path to restoring democracy.

Trump remains the de facto leader of the Republican Party and is flirting with another run for the White House in 2024.

But his ability to drive news cycles and communicate with millions has been significantly altered by the steps social media companies took to remove him from their platforms after Jan. 6.

false claims about last year’s election

Opinion cited as fact. An opinion I don't agree with as there are plenty of facts that show the election was stolen in many places. And why will they not allow us to take a look? They should be making all the information available for scrutiny if they are so convinced the allegations of election fraud are false.

I have been checking DuckDuckGo and Google each day since last Thursday to see what Conservative Writers are saying about DWAC and TrumpSocial.

So far none of the regular conservative writers who are regularly posted on Free Republic have said ‘boo’.

Does anyone really think that any of the liberal who will flock to this site like a moth to flame will be able to post whatever crap they want and the site will just sit back and let them?

Where is the evidence that confirms he said that?

As far as I know, what this person is reporting is just one more lie in an article chock full of lies.

Wonder if a lot of it is waiting to see if it isn’t the sort of the vaporware that was announced and wafted away immediately after the election.

Plus - it’ll be interesting to see how they provide a social media outlet for “the truth”, without needing a massive censorship structure of their own. Every lib on the planet will be jumping in to inundate it with their crapola on a neverending basis.

I’d wait and see as well.

Algorythms to delete troll behavior and threats are basic and simple to design. Other than that, “let's get ready to rumble!”

Newsbreak is an online news and current affairs magazine published in the Philippines. It began as a weekly print magazine that was published from January 24, 2001, to 2006. The Newsbreak website, launched in 2006, now functions as the investigative and research arm of online news organization Rappler.

Newsbreak has published stories covering various issues that concern Congress, the presidency, the security sector, the judiciary, the media, local governments, elections, business, and the economy. The magazine is most notable as a watchdog, having published investigative reports on social ills and corruption. Newsbreak's writers have consistently been nominated for the Jaime V. Ongpin awards since its inception.

Since its migration online, Newsbreak has come out with various special editions covering topics such as the 2007 Philippine elections, scandals involving the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3, and corporate social responsibility, to name a few (see links below). It was previously a partner of the media corporation, ABS-CBN, where it managed the website of its news and current affairs division, abs-cbnNEWS.com.

They don't exactly hold my confidence as being purveyors of truth.

Anything coming from the Hill I always view with a negative impression. Thus I think I misread what was actually said with this line: the former president said decide what everyone else is allowed to “think, say, share, and do.

I think I read that as them claiming President Trump was saying he would do that. 😋

Not the first time, and most likely not the last time, when I misinterpret what I read from a source (in this case The Hill) that I distrust and view as a negative hit piece site against President Trump. 🙂

And yes, seeing it in the NY Post did make me see what was said in the original article with a clearer eye. Thanks. 🙂

It’s probably because Truth Social is just a merger with a company Trump started and a data acquisition company based out of Wuhan China and they realize that paints an entirely different picture of their neo-savior and they really can’t bring themselves to admit that the MAGA star apparently is no different than those he vilifies.

Amen to that. Not over night but this will be (to use Biden’s statement) a “big F’ing deal” long term.

I agree. I am likewise confident that Trump’s TruthSocial will be a big winner. I believe TruthSocial has the potential to go down in the annals of political history as the event that changed everything. Almost in the same league as the invention of the Printing Press was to the Reformation of the Christian Church in 1500.

What concerns me at the moment is the conspicuous silence among the conservative writers who are regularly posted on Free Republic. Wtis not as if they have been silent for the past four years complaining about being censored by Big Tech.
