The assistant director on the New Mexico set of Alec Baldwin's "Rust" movie told police that he did not check all the rounds in the barrel of the gun used in last week's deadly shooting to make sure they were all dummy bullets, according to a newly filed court document.
Assistant director David Halls told police that when the film's armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed "showed him" the firearm that Baldwin used "before continuing rehearsal, he could only remember seeing three rounds," according to a new affidavit obtained by Insider that was filed Wednesday in Santa Fe County Magistrate Court.
Halls "advised he should have checked all of them, but didn't and couldn't recall" if Gutierrez-Reed "spun the drum" of the gun, said the affidavit that was included in search warrant documents for the movie set.
When authorities with the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office asked Halls about the safety protocol on the set in regards to firearms, Halls said, "I check the barrel for obstructions, most of the time there's no live fire," according to the affidavit.
Halls said that Gutierrez-Reed "opens the hatch and spins the drum, and I say 'cold gun' on set," the document states.

So he has chosen to jump on the grenade.
you had ONE job...
“The assistant director on the New Mexico set of Alec Baldwin’s “Rust” movie told police that he did not check all the rounds in the barrel of the gun . . .”
It looks like Hollywood assistant directors are not the only ones ignorant about guns.
What kind of journalist writes about more than one bullet being “in the barrel of the gun”.
Nobody wants to be left holding the smoking gun 😏
Literally failed to do the most important part of the job.
Idiots violated all safety protocols.
Was Gutierrez-Reed on the scene?
I read elsewhere that - when they came back from lunch to rehearse the fateful scene - the armorer wasn’t on the scene. The 1st AD took it upon himself to hand Arec the gun, and to declare it cold.
Irrelevant. Baldwin pulled the trigger.

After listening to part of the presser and the giggling DA, My sense is that this case is just too complex for their little minds and they are just going to let it go.
MOST OF THE TIME??? so this has happened before...
mostly peaceful demonstration, right?
The key is how did live rounds even get on the set.
Tommy Lee Jones had a great line in the movie “No Country for Old Men”. As sheriff his deputy says “what a mess” and Jones quips “if its not the mess, it’ll do ‘till the mess gets here”.
I think that pretty much sums up this cluster.
Prayers for the family of the victim.
Exactly!
Aric was the one that should have checked the gun prior to firing it. He’s the trigger puller.
I was taught to assume any firearm was loaded and to never point it at someone unless I wanted to shoot that person. Baldwin obviously pointed the gun at the victim. Baldwin must have pulled the trigger. Nobody else did. This was, at the very least, negligent homicide!
“What kind of journalist writes about more than one bullet being “in the barrel of the gun”
One that doesn’t know spit about guns.
Granted he screwed up, but if someone hands you a Gun, you damned well better check for yourself as to wether or not it is loaded, I sure in the Hell would and I think everyone else wouild also
“The key is how did live rounds even get on the set.”
Heard one report that stated the crew was plinking on the set with the very gun that killed this woman.
My thought is there shouldn’t have been live rounds within a mile of the movie set.
Too bad there wasn’t a bullet lodged in the barrel. Then the gun would have exploded in his hand when he shot.
