The reason nation states are so interested in quantum computers is to crack public-key encryption.

The factoring of large primes is one thing that quantum computers could do once the bugs are worked out.

Some public-key data can be decrypted now, but definitely NOT in real-time. The various intelligence agencies want to decrypt all web traffic in real-time.

Even with working quantum devices the scales will always tilt toward those who wish to keep secrets...quantum computing is not a magic wand that can decrypt all data.

Some forms of symmetric encryption are mathematically provable to be safe from quantum computer decryption.

From the country that has to steal all of its technology from others comes a global breakthrough in quantum physics.

Ok.

I don’t believe it. I have personally interviewed some US professors who teach in Chinese universities and the Chinese students are the most programmed students anyone could ever want. The professors like that the students do and say exactly what they are told, the universities are brand new and well apportioned, etc.

And when I ask where they do their own research, they ALWAYS say back in their home university in the USA. They can make things happen here and the students ask questions totally outside the box. The Chinese students are too afraid to go outside the box, because failure resides there.
