China is fixated on a mysterious US submarine incident in the South China Sea and keeps accusing the US of a cover-up

Beijing keeps demanding answers about a mysterious US submarine incident that happened in the South China Sea earlier this month, accusing the US of being "cagey" and of trying to cover it up. The US insists that is not the case.

The Seawolf-class nuclear-powered attack submarine USS Connecticut collided with an object in early October, and Chinese officials have asked about it repeatedly since then.

Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Zhao Lijian said Tuesday that China has "grave concerns" and accused the US of being "irresponsible" and "cagey" by not providing details about the incident. He said the lack of details gives "every reason to question the truth and the intention of the US."

"What was USS Connecticut up to do secretively in the South China Sea this time? What did it collide with? Why did that collision happen?" Zhao asked. "Was there a nuclear leak that creates nuclear contamination in the marine environment?"

Based on the photos out there they probably touched bottom or maybe hit an unmarked wreck.

As for the question "What was the sub up to" the answer is "What do you think"?

I saw them. No apparent damage to the sail or the bow dome. No apparent hull damage. Whatever damage there is is below the waterline. That supports the theory that they touched bottom or brushed up against a wreck.

I don’t know why they released information about a disabled/damaged submarine.

China probably knows a lot already but is just trolling with these questions. My guess is they put the obstruction there in the sea to deter/damage submarines.

They should be thankful they didn’t get the full Kursk treatment.

1974

My sub (Boomer) hit something in the Med (a few hundred miles east of Gibraltar) while we were at about 250 feet.

I was on watch in the torpedo room (most forward compartment on the boat). It was less of a “bang” and more of a “dull thump” and there was the slightest shimmy/vibration for a half sec or less.

Never found out what it was. Could have been a whale, some kind of percussion device, a piece of junk of some sort floating around at that depth. People got very excited for about 20 minutes while we checked for damage/leaks. Then back to sleep/card game.

Every now and then we had to go to “ultra-quiet” because a probable Soviet sub was detected within a few hundred yards. Underwater collisions are quiet possible.

As we entered and left through the Straits of Gibraltar to the Atlantic we went as fast as we could and tried to get “lost” in the massive amount of shipping traffic noise 200 feet above us. Soviet subs would sit on either side of the strait trying to pick us up and track us.

Playing with Chinese drone subs and now we’re playing ‘keep away’?

Well, I hope that if they collided with a Chinese submarine, that it sank. Maybe that is the reason for their angst?

Someone knows if they are missing a sub or not.

I’m guessing the “object” was a CCP sub and it sank as a result of the collision.

Of course, the correct answer is:

Welcome to the big leagues of submarine operations, China. It’s where nobody admits anything. The Russians, US, Brits & French know the accepted rules of the game and b*tching about it just shows you for the amateurs that you are.

If China lost a sub then they would be pointing fingers like crazy.

Why do you think a communist regime would admit to anything?
