Fauci fires back at Rand Paul for slam on tonight's "Axios on HBO"

Responding to charges by Sen. Rand Paul on Sunday's "Axios on HBO," NIAID director Anthony Fauci told "ABC This Week" that it's "molecularly impossible" for U.S.-funded bat virus research in China to have produced COVID-19.

Why it matters: The issue 0f Wuhan research was reignited on the right last week with a National Institutes of Health letter to Congress disclosing more about the research.

"I obviously totally disagree with Senator Paul," Fauci told George Stephanopoulos. "He's absolutely incorrect. Neither I nor Dr. Francis Collins, the director of the NIH, lied or misled about what we've done."

Fauci was responding to a clip of Paul, a Kentucky Republican, telling Mike Allen on the upcoming episode of "Axios on HBO" that President Biden should fire Fauci "just for lack of judgment, if nothing else." The big picture: Paul claims vindication in his dispute with Fauci, played out at heated Senate hearings, over the level of risk of U.S.-funded research in Wuhan, where COVID began.

"He's probably never going to admit that he lied," Paul told "Axios on HBO." "He's gonna continue to dissemble, and try to work around the truth, and massage the truth." But, but, but: Fauci told Stephanopoulos the implication of the criticism is that the research led to COVID-19.

Interestingly, Sheryl Atkinsson retweeted a photo of a European protest today and said it’s happening and being reported everywhere except the US (which is true). The USDA National Veterinary Services Laboratories confirmed SARS-CoV-2 in wild white-tailed deer. Earlier studies have shown both that deer can be experimentally infected with the virus and that some wild deer had antibodies to the virus.

Fauci Is smart but diabolical . Imagine he and Dr. Collins funded research that make viruses extraordinary transmissible to humans and tortures dogs in macabre experiments. Dr. Fauci and Dr. Collins lied regarding their funding of Gain of Function Research. The National Institute of Health has confirmed that Drs. Fauci and Collins did fund Gain of Function Research.
Dr. Collins has tendered his resignation. Dr. Fauci should do the same.

When they were first describing how EcoHealth Alliance got grant money; and, then forwarded part of it to Fauci's Wuhan lab, my first thought was that it sounded like EcoHealth had "laundered" the money for Fauci, so that he could say that the U.S. hadn't contributed to the GOF research. But the money from EcoHealth was government money (a grant), and part of it was forwarded to the Wuhan Lab.

No, and I never said that. Wild animals are acting like a viral reservoir, making "vaccinating" all the more irrelevant to even dangerous. It's also highly likely the next bio-weapon they release on their victims will be the through a bat or bird population but much farther from the lab.
