Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) on Thursday urged his constituents to remain vigilant in the fight against COVID-19, saying “let’s not punt on the third down.”

Beshear, during a news conference, said that while hospitalizations, intensive care capacities and ventilator use are all down, Kentuckians must not become complacent in the fight against COVID-19.

“These are all good things, you know, the graph only tells you so much, but it does help show the speed that things are getting better. At the same time, it gives us comparisons on where we were,” Beshear said.

The great democRAT strategists want to kneel while China is on offense. The wrong decision every single time.

Well if the governor whips up some stale football metaphors, we’ll all have to obey. Had communists known the magic power of football rhetoric, they would have triumphed ages ago, instead of dragging it out in ... sudden death overtime like they are now.

Stalin: “It’s not who scores the most points that counts, it’s who refs the game.”
Marx: “The line officials have nothing to lose but their chains.”

Beshear, during a news conference, said that while hospitalizations, intensive care capacities and ventilator use are all down, Kentuckians must not become complacent in the fight against COVID-19.

"... all down"? Compared to what? Compared to when?

Here's something that's not "down" in the Commonwealth of Kentucky: COVID deaths. Data reported to the National Center for Health Statistics show that were 153 deaths *involving COVID in Kentucky in June 2021, 204 such deaths in July 2021, another 860 in August 2021, and a further 1,459 in September 2021.

Notably, comparing those figures with the same months a year ago -- at which time, of course, no one in Kentucky had yet been vaccinated -- we see the following: 155 deaths involving COVID in June 2020, 182 such deaths in July 2020, 304 deaths in August 2020, and 296 deaths in September 2020. That is say, there was a 393% increase in deaths involving COVID last month (i.e., September 2021) compared to the same month a year ago (i.e., September 2020).

I'm not sure what the governor of Kentucky is talking about, regarding "punting on third down." It doesn't look like he's even in possession of the ball at this point.

_______

*The CDC, reporting out the NCHS data, defines "deaths involving COVID" in these terms: " Deaths with confirmed or presumed COVID-19, coded to ICD–10 code U07.1."

Bevin wasn’t bad. Beshear stole the election. And, btw, Beshear’s an idiot.

"Was Bevin really that bad?"

Bevin wanted to beat Miotch and burned himself up inside when he got thumped.

Bevin grabbed the goobership as the booby prize and as goobernor angrily morphed into "Big Daddy", insinuating that casino goers were 'suicidal' ( but the investment firm Bevin worked for was all-in on casinos ).

Those 5,189 votes could have been scraped back a week before the election had Bevin just made neutral noises like "let the voters decide" on casinos.

Bevins suppressed his own turnout in one of the worst-run incumbent campaigns in this still-young 21st Century.
