Former U.S. Rep. Bill Zeliff, a three-term Republican best known for helping lead the congressional investigation of the government’s disastrous siege of the Branch Davidian compound near Waco, Texas, has died. He was 85.
Zeliff, who represented southern and eastern New Hampshire in the U.S. House from 1991 to 1997, died Monday, according to Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory in Venice, Florida, where he had retired. He died after declining health, his wife told WMUR-TV in New Hampshire...
....While in the U.S. House, Zeliff chaired the Government Reform Subcommittee on National Security, International Affairs and Criminal Justice and was a deputy Republican whip. He was known as a fiscal conservative and advocate of budget reform.

He was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1990, took seat in 1991 and was reelected in 1992 and 1994. In 1996, Zeliff opted to instead run in the gubernatorial race for Governor of New Hampshire. He lost the nomination to the chairman of the New Hampshire Board of Education Ovide Lamontagne who went on to lose the election to New Hampshire State Senator Jeanne Shaheen.[citation needed] Zeliff was a member of the ReFormers Caucus of Issue One.[1]Memory lane:
Joining McVeigh, Reno, and the rest of that mess into the void?
And worst of them all himself the devil, Koresh.
Koresh thought he was the Second Coming and was banging other men's wives and underage girls. Evil, yes.
Even the most evil in our society are entitled to due process and be tried for their crimes. It's what separates the USA from other tyrannical governments.
Koresh was denied the due process by the ATF/FBI, and the investigation was a whitewash that put the Davidians on trial instead of the ATF/FBI that screwed the pooch.
The government denied the NRA access to the Davidian weapons so they could be X-rayed to see if the illegal conversions to full auto were done before or after the fire. Koresh could have been arrested in town, and a search warrant served peacefully.
We must never forget.
I remember Koresh on live AM radio saying if they let him read his manifesto, he’d let all the kids out.
He did read it personally. Then he backfired on letting the kids out.
To me, that’s a billion times worse than any government action that came after. Pure.. Evil.
Keep trusting your government.
Keep trusting your psycho cult leader
He’s dead, and I’m not in a cult.
Agents murdered the women and children.
They could have arrested Koresh any of the times he went in to town.
Instead the ATF decided to play GI Joe and got smoked.
Completely avoidable situation.
Yet you have no clue that Koresh said he’d let the kids go and actually had his manifesto live.. And then killed them all.
He didn’t kill them all, and if agents arrested Koresh in town, there was no one to let go.
Eric Holder was Reno’s asst AG.
HE pushed for the siege of the compound.
RIP.
I agree. I was focused on the actions before that, especially the raid. The Davidians had a right to defend themselves from the agents coming in guns blazing. Koresh could have been arrested peacefully and a search warrant served. He should have been tried and convicted for sex crimes, not assaulted with deadly force because the government did not like him buying too many guns or deactivated grenades. I have bought a deactivated grenade at an Army/Navy store myself, they are not illegal.
