I traveled deep into SW Virginia this morning and saw only one McAwful sign.
His presence in SW Virginia is nil
SW Virginia has been solidly red for a long long time.
The big question is whether republicans can chew off a couple points in blue northern VA. It has been northern VA that has been swinging VA blue for more than 20 years.
In a normal election the republican would win—because I think that Youngkin will shave a couple points off McAuliffe’s totals in northern virginia., But the democrats control the election process. So its hard to say what will happen.

He doesn’t need that part of the state at all. SW VA is solidly Republican outside of the cesspool of Blacksburg; the brainwashed zombies at VA Tech may chant against Joe Biden now, but they sure as hell didn’t vote for Trump in 2020 (or ever) and a hefty percentage of them will vote for Mac Daddy this year.
Youngkin will win everything west of Charlottesville aside from the small cities like Roanoke, Blacksburg and Danville. What he hopefully can do is reclaim some ground in the marginal-or-worse areas in the Richmond suburbs and in the Tidewater area, places which were formerly quite nice like Henrico County and Virginia Beach that have become wastelands, demographically and politically, in the last couple of decades. Whether they (like NOVA) are simply too far gone now, we’ll find out soon.
SW Virginia is a Republican stronghold...except for Ralph Stanley, that is. A prominent son from that area, now deceased, who was a poster child for the Democrats.
Lots of signs for both in Northern VA. I don't think the signs matter much, just turnout. NoVA seems to have a lot of turnout so we in the rest of the state have our work cut out for us.
He doesn’t need Southwest Virginia outside of the City of Roanoke. His voters are in the Beltway.
