Russia Suspends Operations Of Its Mission At NATO As Relations With West Deteriorate Further

Russia says it will suspend the operations of its mission at NATO headquarters in Brussels in response to the Western security alliance's move to expel eight members of Russia's mission earlier this month.

In a move marking another blow to East-West ties that are already near Cold War lows, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on October 18 that the operations will be suspended as of November 1, and that the those at the NATO military mission in Moscow will have their accreditation stripped on the same day as well.

Lavrov added that the NATO Secretariat was notified of the steps taken by the Russian side. According to Lavrov, if NATO has any questions for Russia, representatives of the alliance can turn to its ambassador to Belgium. He did not lay out any conditions for the possible resumption of work at the missions.

Lavrov called the actions a response to NATO's October 6 move to expel eight employees of the Russian mission at NATO headquarters. The total number of Russian diplomats in the embassy was cut by half, from 20 to 10.

NATO said at the time that the expelled diplomats were employees of the Russian special services engaged in unfriendly activities.

Relations between NATO and Russia have been tense recently and official contacts have been limited since Moscow annexed Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula in 2014.

Just wondering, has there been any lead-up stories about this during the past year or so? First I’ve heard of it. With our media we are so screwed.

Can somebody explain why our government is picking fights with Russia while the Chinese run amok in the USA?

China is our ‘friend’ and Russia is our enemy - that is what the public has been taught and the Dems are pushing it. What? You expect the Biden Admin to be truthful and behave rationally?

Russia says it will suspend the operations of its mission at NATO headquarters in Brussels ...

So ... why exactly are we allowing Russia to office at the NATO HEADQUARTERS??

Might as well just invite them into the top ring of the Pentagon ... which, knowing the O' and Biden administrations, probably have already done that.

China can afford to buy off our corporations and politicians, Russia cannot.

The Chicoms via Wall Street own the swamp. Lock, stock and barrel. Russia isn’t really that important these days.

NATO has characteristics of diplomatic organizations, similar to the UN. The USA has am ambassador to NATO, for example. The Russians also have a diplomatic mission to NATO, as is wise to allow quick communication in the case of potential conflict.

I say the right solution is to dissolve NATO. It is way past its usefulness.

"Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia on Friday joined a fast-growing list of NATO and EU members demanding the removal of Russian diplomats for alleged spying, in actions that have infuriated Moscow and look certain to provoke further retaliation...

In addition, Bulgaria and Poland have expelled two and three Russians respectively, prompting Moscow to show the door to two Bulgarians and five Poles.

The Czechs are embroiled in the biggest row of all, which looks set to involve the departure of dozens of Czech and Russian diplomats and was prompted by Czech allegations that Russian intelligence was behind a deadly explosion at an ammunication depot in 2014."

So, China has developed a hypersonic, nuclear missile and threatening Taiwan. Biden turned Afghanistan over to the Taliban, who, no doubt, are working with terrorist groups to attack the country. But, we’re obsessed with the Russians, who would probably be happy to leave us alone with if we returned the favor.

It not about going to war, its about ignoring the real threat. NATO generals are the same people running the Pentagon. Perfumed Princes with an agenda.

Of course we have a lot more in common with Russia than the racist Han. We ought to be united with Russia, not a foe. Russia is more about its national pride and defending its Motherland than anything else.

IMHO - Russia represents a much stronger existential threat to the globalist, Atlanticist, NATO, financialist, open-borders types who run DC and Brussels.

In their minds, China is "far away," its culture is inward, not outward-looking, the country is surrounded, China's brand of government doesn't offer a challenge to their power.

Russia is a massive country. Its got huge resources. Its in Europe. It has always been a constant presence and counterbalance in EU/Atlantic politics. Now Russia is actively Christian-nationalist, thus it is a pure ideological threat. If it can be dismantled, its also a huge prize.

Neither one has the US's best interests at heart IMO. We're on our own and have been for some time.

The reason for the present animosity from the western press and governments towards Russia is because Putin is not a member of the ‘club’.
Of course, anyone in eastern europe old enough to remember the Soviet occupation would have plenty of other (more valid) reasons.
