The Shameful Public Lynching of Jon Gruden
Townhall.com ^ | October 17, 2021 | Wayne Allyn Root

The NFL has betrayed us again, this time with the God-awful firing and public lynching of Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden.

But why should the way the NFL treated Gruden surprise anyone? After all, the NFL is always wrong about everything.

Actually, it's clear the NFL's whole goal in life is to throw their own customers under the bus while courting people who have never watched NFL football and never will.

Remember the recent TV ads reporting that "(t)he NFL is gay ... lesbian ... bisexual ... transgender." Really? Is that who sits in the stands? Is that who lives and dies with NFL football? Is that who bets on games?

The people who love football, who live and die with NFL football, are overwhelmingly just like me. And we're just like Gruden. We're rough, tough, macho, disciplined, take-no-crap, patriotic, primarily white, male, middle-class Trump voters. There, I said it. Like it or not, that's the raw truth ...

The NFL's main customer base is Trump voters.

One other thing NFL fans have in common -- we believe actions speak far louder than words. We believe sticks and stones can break your bones, but words can never hurt you. We watch what a man does, not what he says. We don't hide in "safe spaces" over words.

Hey, NFL, want to know what your own customers think? We don't care what Gruden said in private emails from 10 years ago. This was a witch hunt. This was a shameful public lynching of a Super Bowl-winning coach. Somebody had it out for Gruden. They wanted to ruin his life. They wanted to end his career.

I'm guessing the guilty party is the pathetic, bleeding-heart, liberal NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell who was filled with rage when he found out Gruden called him a "pu--y."

Gruden made a big mistake. He should have sat down with his team's owner and said, "Hell no, I won't resign over words, in a private email, from a decade ago. I'm coming out of the closet. I self-identify as Hillary Clinton."

Those should have been your magic words, Jon. "I am Hillary Clinton. I am woman, hear me roar." End of witch hunt. You'd have been celebrated the next day for being the first openly transgender coach. They'd have thrown you a ticker-tape parade down the Vegas Strip. ESPN would have awarded you an ESPY Award for courage. The Raiders would have built you your own bathroom.

As a bonus, the NFL would have erased your emails. Clinton erased 33,000 emails upon getting a subpoena from Congress. Not a word was ever leaked from Clinton's 33,000 emails. The media blacked out the story. Gruden just needed to become a liberal woman.

Here's how the NFL's most loyal customers really think. If we're now firing coaches for words in private emails, then let's investigate everyone.

We demand Goodell release all his emails from the past 10 years. You think the Commissioner never uttered a shocking word about owners or players?

We demand every NFL owner release their emails from the past 10 years. I can't wait to see what the owners said about their players in private conversations.

We demand every NFL player release their texts from just the past week. Want to bet they used all the same offensive language as Gruden? And much worse.

Want to bet the black players use racist terms and hate speech toward white players, coaches and owners in their texts? I can't wait to see those texts.

I'm betting one week of the players' texts would be enough to close the entire league down.

You really want to fire coaches based on words? Have you ever heard the filthy, vile, vulgar, racist and sexist language of rappers hired by the NFL to perform at Super Bowl halftime shows?

And then there's the NFL players who commit acts of brutality, assault and violence upon women, and are allowed back onto the field. Look up Richard Sherman. He's playing right now for the Super Bowl champs.

But Gruden had to go? Over words, from private emails, from 10 years ago. Are you kidding?

This was a shameful public lynching of Gruden. It's time to look at the emails and texts of everyone in the NFL.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Gruden is not a loyal party member in good standing.

What is this "NFL" I keep hearing about?

Is it something which patriotic Americans should be concerned with?

I can assure you that if all patriotic Americans would only ignore this issue (and return to doing their crossword puzzles or mowing their lawns, instead of gluing their eyes to the boob tube), it would surely go away.

These “Liberals” (Commies, really) are the most loathsome, disgusting and vile creatures around. They should be treated with nothing but contempt. I am sick of them and their mere existence.

This is like reading (in 1930s Germany) about some moderate / halfway decent Gauleiter being demoted, because he didn't "toe" the Party line, and was evincing too much humanity, and then complaining about it - as though the regime were still worth "saving" or somehow capable of "reform."

The only workable solution I see is to turn off your t.v. sets and use the time you save at the gun range.

I stopped watching the NFL over 15 years ago. I will never go back.

I’m still a huge college football fan.

Gruden is not a loyal party member in good standing.

Gruden was 22 and 31 with the Raiders over the past three-plus years. Had he been 48 and 6 he could be as bigoted as he wanted and he's still have his job.

As dozens have pointed out by now, there are 650,000 (at least) emails in this witch hunt. Only a handful - all attributed to Jon Gruden - have been released. Why?

Apparently the NY Times may have many more emails if not the entire trove. Why?

The NY Times, then, will be its own arbiter, even its own leaker, of the emails. Why? And why not release/publish them all (at least online)?

One thing we have seen with the covid nonsense is that government is using corporations as one degree of separation. If the corporations impose ridiculous, onerous restrictions they are ‘private companies’ and court challenges are stifled as opposed to suits the government will ultimately lose. It’s lazy, cynical and evil. But then so is government.

The NY Times would not have obtained or received the emails without some sort of agreement with the NFL. The NFL will now use the Times as a hitman to take out designated targets and to protect those unworthy of protection.

Example: ESPN’s ‘inside info’ man Adam Schefter got a small shot across the bow when one of his sycophantic emails to Bruce Allen asking for review/approval of a story called Schefter’s journalistic bona fides into question. It seemed to have the whiff of scandal but any sane person concluded long ago that Schefter is obviously playing footsie with front office types and coaches, even players, in order to obtain what appears to be a monopoly on firings, hirings, roster moves, injuries, etc. Schefter is the designated safe option for news that might leak out elsewhere or have some unsavory details attached. But Schefter must be kept in line like everyone else so this was a little warning.

To be clear, I think the entire thing is a farce. A witch hunt, as above.

Leftists love to accuse organizations of having an undesirable ‘culture’ - which simply means the leftists want an ideological war waged, not least because this isn’t a criminal investigation. You can’t put ‘culture’ on trial but you can try to ruin lives, spread fear and degrade relationships. The leftists, of course, think this is normal and necessary.

Even more farcical is that the documents in question are TEN YEARS OLD. It would be like debating the Beatles’ appearance on Ed Sullivan...in 1974. It’s political and now it’s anachronistic as well.

Note that no leftist institution eg a university ever goes on trial for ‘culture’ - although the culture at many leftist institutions involves the very things they accuse others of - sexual high jinks, verbal abuse, overt racism (the anti-white version), corruption, etc. Then, of course, those incidents are treated as ‘isolated’ and the media clap their hands and play along.

Years and years ago I learned never to put stupid **** in writing that could come back to bite me.

(And to never, ever send an email while drinking.)

Public lynchings only happen, at least in the US countries nowadays, if what the public thinks affects you or your livelihood.

At least we don’t hang good people on a cross - yet.

My brother in law mainly sits around and watches game shows and football. We visited them last weekend. I sat through three football games. I have to say that the tech has come a long way since I watched football in the 90’s, but the games were oddly boring.

I’m just not into it at all any more, though I never really was much. I’m more of a doer than a watcher when it comes to sports.

Not one thing Gruden said was wrong. And now sports, just as with everything else Democrats touch, is ruined including entertainment. Between race and/or gender swapping and wokeness some classics couldn’t be made today. I read an article over at NewsBusters about that, “Twitter Mob Alert! Everyone Knows Too Much of ‘Airplane!’ Couldn’t Be In a Movie Today”, so give that a look. ‘The Office’ is another thing that couldn’t be done today, at least not funny. If Antonio Brown had behaved the Raiders would have won more the last few years too, just look at how Brady tamed him in Tampa Bay.

We are well past democrat, liberal or progressive, and we even blew by socialist. The left today are communists and the sooner folks wake up to that the quicker we take back our country.

48 and 6 is asking a lot in the ‘parity based’ NFL (where a first place in division team one year plays all first place teams, plus rest of own division, the next year). Simply 31 and 22 would have done it. And if Antonio Brown had behaved himself that was possible.

There was only one comment which seemed racist, and Gruden had an explanation that the comment was completely unrelated to race.

Since I never liked gruden, I don't care that they hung him out to dry, except for the fact that this article is pretty much spot on.

It's just another example of, "First they came for the Jews"...

America is fast becoming a fascist nation and the citizens are looking more and more like the Germans of the 1930s, pretending it is not happening.

It’s hard to have sympathy for a guy who worked in an industry that I wrote off years ago.

You might as well tell me that Jon Gruden was unjustly run out of his job working for Planned Parenthood or the DNC.
