Police 'prevented Catholic priest from giving murdered UK lawmaker his last rites as he lay dying after being stabbed

A Roman Catholic priest has accused police of preventing him from giving Conservative MP Sir David Amess his last rites as he lay dying in his Essex constituency.

Father Jeffrey Woolnough arrived at the police cordon stretching across tree-lined Eastwood Road North in Leigh-on-Sea, offering to administer the last rites to the devout Catholic, 69, on Friday afternoon after he was allegedly stabbed multiple times by a suspected terrorist.

But he told the Mail: 'The officers said that because it was a crime scene, and also the nature of the scene, it just wasn't possible.' MailOnline has contacted Essex Police, which responded to reports of the initial incident before Scotland Yard launched an investigation, for comment.

At a service at Saint Peter's Church in Eastwood Lane on Friday evening, Father Woolnough called Sir David 'Mr Southend' and described the MP as a 'fine gentleman and a knight of the realm' who was much loved by all members of the community.

The church fell silent as Father Woolnaugh paid tribute to the Conservative MP and invited his constituents to remember him. He placed a photograph of Sir David at the front of the church, and said: 'This liturgy is one I was not expecting to lead today.

'The whole world grieves. In this Mass we pray for the repose of the soul of dear David.

'Have you ever known Sir David Amess without that happy smile on his face? Because the greeting he would always give you was that happy smile.

'He carried that great east London spirit of having no fear and being able to talk to people and the level they're at. Not all politicians, I would say, are good at that.'

“...after he was allegedly stabbed multiple times...”

I wonder if they thought he committed suicide by stabbing himself multiple times?

If it was a muslim that wanted to give some sort of religious sendoff, no doubt they would have rolled the red carpet out for him to the victim.

I don’t.
We still have wonderful caring police who would, and do, sacrifice their lives every day!

BUT when biden finishes firing the good ones.....
....and starts to federalize the new hires...( gestapo version)

I will understand your sentiment.......

There was a priest who, on hearing that the World Trade Center was under attack, ran downtown from his church in midtown, wearing his cassock, I might add. He was used to running distances as he was a runner and a boxer. He administered last rights to first responders.

When I found out that in Boston, after the marathon bombing, the police blocked priests from entering the scene to administer last rites, claiming it to be unapproachable, being a crime scene.

Outrageous.

I wrote to the NY priest about it. He responded by pointing out that this lack of reverence was a result of the practice of priests allowing Eucharistic ministers to distribute the Eucharist

What part of it was a crime scene is not understood?

The priest could just as easily stood across the street and prayed for his soul. Hmm, guess the FR prayer requests can’t possibly be done unless we’re right on top of the person. See the hypocrisy?

How many more examples does one need to drop this ‘back the blue’ nonsense? The blue will execute whatever policy its overlords demand of it regardless of the individual’s personal beliefs.

It’s not hypocracy of Catholics but merely ignorance of Catholicism on your part. Rough way to put it, yes. But true.

...or common sense. I didn’t notice it saying in the article if he was dying or already dead. If the former, it was absolutely inexcusable. If the latter, slightly less so.
