On September 27, 2021, a little after midnight, in Anderson, Indiana, surveillance cameras captured a man lurking around a home on a quiet residential street.

 From fox59.com:

ANDERSON, Ind. — An Anderson woman shot and killed a man suspected of breaking into her home overnight.

911 dispatchers received a call from a female homeowner in the 1300 block of E. 8th Street around 12:47 a.m. The woman told police there was a break-in at the home, and she shot the suspected burglar.

By the time police arrived, they found the alleged suspect dead in an upstairs bedroom.

With home surveillance cameras rolling, prosecutors insist a man forced his way into the woman’s home.

“Neighbors had videos of him parking in front of the residence and looking through windows, ultimately breaking through the door and pulling a weapon out,” said Madison County Prosecutor Rodney Cummings.

Prosecutor Cummings says the suspect could also be heard on video asking for money and pretending to be law enforcement.

After the shooting, the woman ran from the house seeking help from neighbors. The neighbors described what they observed to a reporter. From wthr.com:

ANDERSON, Ind. — Neighbors in Anderson say a woman was going door to door in the middle of the night asking for help after she shot and killed a man who broke into her home early Wednesday.

“There was somebody screaming, ‘Help me, help me! Please call the police!'” said Amari Lewis.

Lewis and Caitlin Knox woke up to their doorbell ringing over and over and their neighbor from across the street desperate for help.

“She was very scared and frantic. She didn’t want to go to jail. She wanted to make sure her kids were OK,” Lewis said.

People need to know criminals often claim to be police in an attempt to gain advantage.

It sounds like everything is on video. Is this a good idea?

I’m not sure that law enforcement is up to the task of having more material to work with. Would less be better?

When it comes to clean up, she is going to wish she had killed him in the kitchen on the tile.

She will never get the blood out of the carpet.

Yep. In fact two of the gunmen in the 1929 St. Valentine’s Day Massacre were dressed as policemen.

But the fix is simple. If the cops are planning to go into your home, they should first park a marked cruiser out front, with lights flashing and siren on. Let folks know it really is the police.

This is an especially important thing to do after dark.

I like the stock photo that accompanied the article. It follows the paradigm of the clean-cut middle-class white man in a hoodie as the criminal. Which is perfectly accurate, as we all know.

I am surprised that there is Audio as well as video.

This is the first I have read of home surveillance video having audio.

I guess memory has gotten cheap enough to store audio with the video.

…prosecutors insist a man forced his way into the woman’s home.

Who is being prosecuted? The dead intruder or the homeowner? If the homeowner, then why “insist” the perp broke in? There isn’t much point prosecuting the dead guy.

What am I missing?

What the prosecutor is saying. From the article:

Prosecutor Rodney Cummings illustrated the changing attitude toward the defense of self and others, especially in your own home. From fox59.com:

“In your home is probably the most protected place you can be,” said Cummings. “If you’re breaking into someone’s home in the middle of the night, if you don’t get shot or killed you should feel fortunate.”

“I am surprised that there is Audio as well as video.”

I was more surprised that Indiana has castle doctrine. And good to know the neighbor guy Fox interviewed was armed and showed it. Try looking for CBS, NBC affiliates who will do that.

She will never get the blood out of the carpet.

A guy that lived down the street when I was growing up in Queens was a business lawyer in Manhattan, not really wealthy, sort of middle class. Our neighborhood was changing and not for the better. He was not, as far as I know, a criminal lawyer. He did defend a guy from Forest Hills (an upscale neighborhood) who murdered his wife in the kitchen. He lost the case, but took the house as his fee. Not a bad moonlighting gig.

I helped him move furniture or something, not for money, as a friendly neighbor kid. I forget the details. But, yes, there was a bloodstain in the kitchen floor.

“No knock” warrants are so dangerous to both police and innocent people. Many have been killed for no good reason at all. We have no idea bow many have been killed when criminals announced “police” and homeowners hesitated to shoot.

If someone breaks down your door without calls or announcements, it should be 100% legal to shoot them nomatter what they announce or how they are dressed.

Nobody is destroying a real cache of drugs in an f’n toilet and it’ll clog after the first kilo. If you can flush it, government shouldn’t even be wasting time on those cases.

Just a scam for PDs to dressup and play special forces over a few ounces of mostly baking soda

He is not prosecuting anyone, unless the investigation turns up something unexpected.

That is the point.

This is what the left doesn’t want us to be able to do. They want the POS to waltz right in, assault the woman and take what he wants.

The woman told police there was a break-in at the home, and she shot the suspected burglar.

I would be proud to make such a call.

She should be honored by the city and made grand marshal of the next local parade.

Anyone who gets past my dogs will get the same treatment. Justifiably.

He probably reviewed the police report and decided not to prosecute.

They then want to charge the woman with everything up to and including murder, make an example of her and toss her in jail à la Derek Chauvin.

“She will never get the blood out of the carpet.”

Plenty of off the shelf products available to remove blood stains.

Dead guys family should pay for professional cleaning. Or get on their hands and knees and bag up whatever internal organ matter got on the floor and then spend the rest of the week steam cleaning the carpet. Restitution for the ammo too.
