Democrats in the Illinois state legislature released their proposed new congressional district maps, which place Republican Adam Kinzinger in a Democratic district and force him to run in 2022 against an incumbent who is likely to defeat him.
Kinzinger, a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump who is also an enthusiastic member of the January 6 commission, might have expected Democrats to reward his service to their cause by preserving his far suburban Chicago district, the 16th.

I expect there will be a lot of California Republicans looking for work once the legislature finishes redrawing their districts. Same with New York. I heard that Colorado is redistricting Boebert out of her seat as well.

Dont the democrats always get a judge somewhere to declare Republican redistricting efforts unconstitutional and not valid for the coming elections?
Do R’s file the same lawsuits when D’s are redistricting?
Nobody should be sad to see this loser’s political career end, but it would have been nice to see him go down in flames in a primary and have the Republicans retain the seat in the general election.
Ten years ago the Illinois Democrats came up with possibly the most hyper-partisan gerrymander in the nation, and they appear to be outdoing themselves this time around. Rats currently control 13 out of 18 U.S. House seats and (the state is losing one seat) they are trying to make it 13 out of 17 which would be an amazing accomplishment in a state where the actual partisan balance is nowhere near that tilted.
As I’ve said numerous times on this site, everywhere Democrats control the redistricting process they will screw Republicans to the wall and their media allies will utter nary a peep about the “g-word”. As always, the Loser Party will bend over and take it, and Illinois is just one state where they’ll be bending over for the next 10 years.
OTOH, anywhere Republicans control the process the Democrats are already prepared with lawsuits presuming to “invalidate” the Republican maps for some irrelevant and inapplicable reason, with the media aiding and abetting them by manufacturing outrage at those eeevil racist gerrymandering Republicans. Rats everywhere have already shopped for suitably corrupt Democrat judges (they’re SO hard to find), who will find in favor of their team and impose by judicial fiat maps which transfer as many seats as possible to the Democrats. As always, the Loser Party will bend over and take it.

By my count — which may not be 100% accurate but I think it is — Republican state legislators control the redistricting process in 23 out of 43 states. Might be 24 out of 44 since Montana has to draw lines this time as the result of getting a second Congressional district.
The 23 states are:
Alabama (Democrat lawsuit already filed)
Arkansas
Florida
Georgia
Indiana
Iowa
Kansas
Kentucky
Louisiana
Mississippi
Missouri
Nebraska
New Hampshire
North Carolina
Oklahoma
Ohio
Pennsylvania
South Carolina
Tennessee
Texas
Utah
West Virginia
Wisconsin
However: Kansas, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and North Carolina have Democrat Governors who will automatically veto (if they are able to) any Republican plan. That reduces Republican control to 19 states.
As noted, in Alabama the racist Democrats have already run screaming to a liberal judge, and there may be several other lawsuits already filed in some of the states listed above. Obviously zero suits will be filed by Republicans when they get screwed by Democrats as has happened again in Illinois, and if any Republican suits eventually ARE filed they will simply be dismissed for “lack of standing” in exactly the same manner that Democrat lawsuits never are.
There are a number of States who’s major City provides about half of the State’s population.
