While hundreds of thousands of poor migrants seeking asylum in the U.S. have trekked on foot from South and Central America in the last eight months, there has also been a rise in middle class migrants flooding the southern border.
These so-called middle class migrants often fly to Mexico's northern border on pre-planned flights and cross into the U.S. by cab or another car hire, a Border Patrol chief in Arizona told the Wall Street Journal.
'They got off the plane and went to a cab or to a bus,' Chris Clem, Border Patrol's chief patrol agent in Yuma, said.
'They literally were driven up and just walked up and turned themselves over to us,' he said in describing the last leg of more affluent migrants' trip over the U.S.-Mexico border....

seems like a lot of trouble when they could just fly directly into the US by saying they are a tourist.. then just stay.

There’s no walking in any event. An absolutely impenetrable jungle divides Columbia from Panama. No road much less highway, no train route, no trail. So it’s boat, airplane, hot air balloon, what have you, but no fully land-based travel options exist for “migrants” to travelfrom South America to the U.S.A.
Such is true, with a couple of exceptions.
Two guys, riding Rokon Trailbreaker two wheel drive motorcycles made it through.
Rokons are now made in Rochester, New Hampshire.
Search for "Rokon" and "Darien Gap".
And I think a team with Land Rovers made it.
There may be a few others.

They aren’t walking from South America to Mexico any more than the Haitians invading us swam from Haiti to Mexico before crossing the border. Somebody’s financing their transportation. Look at the pictures, 75% of them are overweight and staring at their Iphones. The illegals invading us aren’t the starving waifs the media makes them out to be.
Depending on the country of origin it can be difficult to get a US tourist visa. From many countries one has to show statements of employment, income and assets, and etc., to demonstrate why one was not a potential illegal immigrant and would not just overstay the visa. In many countries its a US consuls main job to screen visa applications.
Other countries citizens (Britain, EU countries, Australia, Japan ...) are just waved through at the airport, no visa needed.
Why don't they get a tourist or student visa, fly to the USA, and then just stay here?
The only reason people pay the cartel to jump the border is because they cannot get into the USA legally.
Our laws go after the law biding... ( 'WOKE INSANITY') so your plan wouldn't work. Middle class and upper class citizens of the world need the stamp of approval that only 'border security' can give them.
Why?
It's the same as a young mother taking her kids to school and getting a ticket for going five miles an hour over the speed limit while 'homeless' (criminals) are shooting up heroin 30 feet away. The cops ignore the real criminals and focus on law biding...

If we had a government that gave a damn about our country we’d be hitting mexico really hard for allowing this. Unfortunately, TPTB want to replace us with a more compliant populace.
We are going for the Brazilian social-economics model.
Several years ago I dated a Cuban woman who had come over in the 94 Cuban exodus. She had several friends from South America. I met two families who had come from South America on tourist visas and just stayed. They were, to be honest, intelligent, hard working, middle class people. Strangely, two of the men worked for government contractors on military helicopters. I never could figure that out. There is so much that goes on that the average person doesn’t know.
