Leftist Dreams Crushed: Many Cities Are Reversing Course on 'Defund the Police'

It’s been a year since local officials across the U.S. voted to defund police departments in the wake of widespread protests over George Floyd’s death, but now, many are having a change of heart.

From coast to coast, police departments that were victim to the defund movement are now getting money back, The New York Times reports. In New York, for example, local officials have voted to give $200 million to the NYPD, while the LAPD got a 3 percent budget increase.

The abrupt reversals have come in response to rising levels of crime in major cities last year, the exodus of officers from departments large and small and political pressures. After slashing police spending last year, Austin restored the department’s budget and raised it to new heights. In Burlington, Vt., the city that Senator Bernie Sanders once led as mayor went from cutting its police budget to approving $10,000 bonuses for officers to stay on the job.

But perhaps nowhere has the contrast been as stark as in Dallas, where [Mayor Eric] Johnson not only proposed to restore money to the department but moved to increase the number of officers on the street, writing over the summer that “Dallas needs more police officers.” […]

After the mayor proposed increasing funding, no protests followed. When the Council backed a budget that restored many of the cuts made last year, few came to the public hearing, and even fewer spoke against the plan, which included the hiring of 250 officers. It passed with little fanfare last month. (NYT)

Conservatives weren’t surprised to see the 180 on police funding.

Leftists create the stupid and dangerous policy, and bad stuff happens.

Then they try to reverse it, but the bad stuff keeps happening.

Why? Because normal folks learn that the leftists cannot be trusted—and flee the jurisdiction.

That lesson is learned for years, decades and even generations.

It will not be forgotten.

Since the leftists created the mess, I say let them burn down their cities. Just don’t ask the rest of us to pay for the rebuild!

The leftists have already destroyed public order and policing regardless

My friend had his warehouse robbed of $10,000+ of goods in broad daylight. his CCTV recorded everything in perfect clarity - the car, make, license plate, close up photos of the perps. It should be an easy case to investigate, yes?

Weeks later, the cops haven’t even assigned a detective yet.

His attitude now is - Defund the police doesn’t matter, because police are just another bloated government bureaucracy that does nothing to solve crimes.

The plan was never to defund the police. The plan was to defund the current police, purging police departments of the existing crop of officers. Then they would “re-fund” the police and hire in a more diverse crew, who will be more willing to follow the orders of the political class, when those orders become more authoritarian.

The only outcome I could foresee as their plan for the “defund the police” movement was to replace them with federal jackboots.

If we’re lucky they try to reverse the policies. But most of the time they just double down on bad policies and problem that they created.

If your friend wants action they need to pull strings.

That means getting prominent people in that community (like folks who give big bucks to local politicians) to take up his cause.

The friend can ask nicely, or offer to pay for services rendered, whatever.

But—police priorities can be changed with one phone call from the right person.

But have any of these hell-holes untied the hands of the cops so they can actually enforce the laws, or are there just going to be more spectator cops just stand there and watch antifa and BLM burn, loot, destroy, and kill people?

The problem is they don’t associate the collapse of the places they left with their ideas . They think it’s just something that happened for some unspecified reason. They are flipping the places they go to libtard one by one.

De-policing was a tactic, not an end in itself.

The real goal is to federalize local law enforcement.
