Taliban says US will provide humanitarian aid to Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD (AP) — The U.S. has agreed to provide humanitarian aid to a desperately poor Afghanistan on the brink of an economic disaster, while refusing to give political recognition to the country’s new Taliban rulers, the Taliban said Sunday.

The statement came at the end of the first direct talks between the former foes since the chaotic withdrawal of U.S. troops at the end of August.

There was no immediate comment from the U.S. on the weekend meeting.

The Taliban said the talks held in Doha, Qatar, “went well,” with Washington freeing up humanitarian aid to Afghanistan after agreeing not to link such assistance to formal recognition of the Taliban.

The United States made it clear that the talks were in no way a preamble to recognition of the Taliban, who swept into power Aug. 15 after the U.S.-allied government collapsed.

Taliban political spokesman Suhail Shaheen also told The Associated Press that the movement’s interim foreign minister assured the U.S. during the talks that the Taliban are committed to seeing that Afghan soil is not used by extremists to launch attacks against other countries.

The only aid we should be sending there is Birth Control pills and battalions of doctors performing vasectomies.

It’s a payoff for only killing 13 soldiers on the way out. Isn’t it grand to be the most powerful military on Earth?

I knew this would happen. The Idiot-in-Chief precipitously yanks our troops from Afghanistan, the rest of NATO follows suit, knowing they can’t provide the same level of protection as the US, the country collapses into the arms of rabid, murderous, misogynists, and now we are having to give them money to prevent a humanitarian disaster that would approach genocidal levels.

Biden is a f**king retard.

I guess they’re too shy to ask their new buddies, the Chinese and the Russians. We must have been the nearest available dupe idiots

What? Wasn't twenty years of trying to bomb them up to the stone age enough?

Because the Taliban is negotiating with folks that were probably sh*tting their pants. Those folks were members of the US Dept of State.

They were convinced, although it didn’t take much, that the humanitarian crisis is the fault of the USA, therefore they should pay.

Anyone want to see how this could play out, watch Blackhawk Down a time or two.

And that is directed at the politicians that cause these problems, certainly not the guys on the ground implementing these idiotic policies.

Money is obviously fungible. One man's humanitarian is another man's Taliban. If they want food, Hillary is heavy with pork bellies.

Not about being shy. The Russians and Chinese probably told them to ask CornPop knowing that he’d wrote the checks.

These folks ain’t dumb.

We tried to help them for 20 years.

They tried to kill us for 20 years.

I don’t think they understand how help works.

I read their going to “by-pass” the Taliban and give aid directly to poor people i.e 100 - 200 bucks at a time because the banking system has also failed.

I guarantee though any monies will end up in the Taliban hands. It’s a stupid policy,

Give the citizens, not the government, money in exchange for all our equipment. No equipment; no money.

Yes, it is.

It is a bribe being honored even in the face of more than a hundred killed by one of their nut-jobs.
