An inmate at Bay Area jail overdosed on fentanyl Friday morning.
Just after 7 a.m., correctional deputies at the Santa Clara County Jail in San Jose found a man suffering from a serious fentanyl overdose.
Authorities administered three doses of narcan to the inmate who was unconscious. The man was immediately revived and was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration is investigating the incident to process the cell and determine how the fentanyl got into the jail.
In September, a Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall counselor was charged with assault for allegedly punching a detained minor a dozen times and slamming his head into the floor.
Happens a lot.

Narcan doesn’t save life...it perpetuates drug use even further.
Corrections officers are the biggest gang in any prison or jail IMHO. Thats a job no one chooses because its fun or morally sound.
And how long have you served as a corrections officer? I served for 25 years and your comment is insulting to the vast majority of C/O’s, both active and retired. Please don’t let the msm do your homework for you in the future.

Can’t argue with that. Gives them more chances to OD without winning the big jackpot.

If they have a bunch of Narcan on hand, it must be expected and/or a regular occurrence.
Prisons should hand it out for free.
Annnnd, my sympathy is about this big: .. The space too small to show between two dots.
Play with fire, get burnt.
This kind of thing is exactly why I oppose the entire ‘war on drugs’. If you can’t control drugs in a PRISON, how the hell can you keep them out of the general society. A prison is the perfect police state. No one has any privacy, everything is fully regimented, and the state has absolute control over visitors.
They should hand out Fentanyl pills to convicts like candy.
Used to be the the Darwin Award - in cases like this we can be more precise and call it the Floyd Award. :)
Narcan works for those accidentally exposed to Fentanyl, such as police and first responders, but I agree with you on drug users.
I’ve spoken with officers who’ve said addicts brought back with narcan get really angry because it stopped their high!
There are no “accidents” about drug overdoses......people know fully well they’re playing Russian roulette.....there’s no way they even know what they’re taking...drug pushers don’t care either way cause there’s always another sucker waiting in line to take their place if they die....and that’s quoting a drug pusher sitting in his “office”.
Thinking you’re right from all I’ve looked at......you can get anything in prison if you have the money....or the goods on a prison guard. Cell phones and drones are popular.
Our prison system is just another institution of fraud and corruption. Everyone there has a “game”.
So there is that.......
BS...
Are you talking prescription drugs or street drugs....or what.
It’s still about people being irresponsible with what they put in their mouth. I’m very careful with any prescription when needed. In fact my body can’t handle prescription painkillers at all so I end up having a cocktail created with over the counter drugs for surgery etc. ASAP I go off those.
I've seen too many people OD on their own Prescriptions...for various reasons...they forgot they took them earlier so they take more later. Etc....
Reducing incarceration costs one overdose at a time.
