Los Angeles County sheriff won't enforce vaccine mandate in his agency

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles County sheriff says he will not enforce the county's vaccine mandate in his agency.

Sheriff Alex Villanueva, who oversees the largest sheriff's department in the county with roughly 18,000 employees, said Wednesday in a Facebook Live event that he does not plan to carry out the county's mandate, under which Los Angeles County employees had to be fully vaccinated by Oct. 1.

The mandate was issued by executive order in August and allows only for religious and medical exemptions. Villanueva said his employees are willing to be terminated rather than get vaccinated.

The rule he stands in opposition to is from LA County Supervisors.

Claims he can’t afford to suddenly lose the 5 to 10% who would quit in order to comply.

Sheriff Alex Villanueva, who oversees the largest sheriff's department in the county ...

And the only sheriff's dept. in the county. Oh, ABC meant "in the country!"

ABC hire only the best jornolists and editors.

That sounds like a reasonable concern for a Sheriff of a county like L.A. county. It would have been nice if he had also said something about his deputy's civil rights though.

The federal mandates don’t apply to state/local governments anyway.

A synonym of mandate is dictate. Dictators issue mandates.

This is the same Sheriff who told Karens who threatened to snitch on their neighbors having Thanksgiving gatherings not to bother calling his department. He let everyone know his deputies wouldn’t be responding to any of those calls.

Also the same Sheriff who cleared out the Venice beach homeless encampments when the LAPD refused to do anything.

Good for him!

Alex has never been the brightest bulb in the drawer, but he’s been consistently good for LASD, and his candor is refreshing. He ran as a lefty, but turns out to be the same guy I knew years ago; a working class populist who is actually just trying to do a good job.

It’s going to be interesting to see who the local pols recruit to run against him.

I don’t know that much about him, but when I hear about him
he seems to be doing the right thing.

Yeah, they may try a real hard line Marxist type.

Hope the folks see through that.

“It’s going to be interesting to see who the local pols recruit to run against him.”

I don’t think it will matter. The BLM racists at the LA county board are about to be run out of LA, and there’s nothing that the fascist governor, the LA county board or the LA city council can do about it. The Mexicans are taking over LA. And that will be good for small businesses, LA neighborhoods and the sheriff’s allies.

LA county has 5 million Mexicans. And less than a million blacks.

I figure at least 20%. FWIW, the 5-10% figure is from his remarks to reporters, when asked.
