Beijing (AFP) - Chinese authorities have ordered dozens of coal mines to expand production amid a nationwide energy crunch, state media reported Friday.
Dozens of mines in China's Inner Mongolia, a major coal producing region, were instructed to increase their capacity by more than 98 million tonnes in an official notice not released to the public, the state-run Securities Times reported.
Nearly 60 percent of China's energy-hungry economy is fuelled by coal, and the country has struggled to wean itself from the fuel despite its pledge to become carbon neutral by 2060.
China has been hit by widespread power cuts that have forced factories to delay production as businesses are ordered to minimize energy usage.
Record coal prices, state electricity price controls and tough emissions targets have combined to squeeze the power supply, pushing over a dozen provinces and regions to announce curbs on energy usage in recent months.

I wonder how many dead coal miners is this going to cause?
How is China able to do this? Because I’m sure neither Al Gore nor Greta Thunberg gave them permission.
Hmmmmph...
Wouldn’t they also do this to make an economy that’s circling the bowl look more robust than it really is...?

Something squirrely is going on...
Democrat politicians use Climate Control as an excuse to shut down US coal mines so China can fill the demand they created.
So, they will arrest or jail some more men from disaffected groups and there will suddenly be more coal miners.
This as U.S. car manufacturers are in the process of switching away from gasoline-powered engines to “clean energy” engines - which will be supplied by what? Wind power? Solar panels?
Australia has plenty, ready to ship...
Most electric cars are powered by coal.
How long are the Chinese going to shiver in the dark so that John Kerry can jet around to climate summits?
My point exactly.
Yup..think of the quota’s that Stalin ordered the Ukrainian farmers to meet back in the day.

Yeah. Commies always think they can demand and it will happen. They’re gonna run out of Uighur slaves, and slave labor is usually pretty bad at doing complex work.
Yes, mining can be complex. Accidents, cave-ins, shoddy safety all contribute to “unexpected” results.
I wonder how many dead coal miners is this going to cause?

depends if the mines are underground or open pit.
