A US nuclear powered submarine struck an object underwater in the South China Sea on Saturday, according to two defense officials.
A number of sailors on board the USS Connecticut were injured in the accident, the officials said. None of the injuries were life-threatening, according to a statement from US Pacific Fleet. It's unclear what the Seawolf-class submarine may have hit while it was submerged.
"The submarine remains in a safe and stable condition. USS Connecticut's nuclear propulsion plant and spaces were not affected and remain fully operational," the statement said. "The incident will be investigated." The US Navy did not specify the incident took place in the South China Sea, only that it occurred in international waters in the Indo-Pacific region.
The accident happened as tensions between the US and China soared over the Chinese military's incursions into Taiwan's Air Defense Integration Zone (ADIZ).

Passive sonar wouldn’t have picked it up.And active sonar gives away your position to interested parties. There must be some sort of technological marvel in the works to ameliorate the curse of blindness.

There must be some sort of technological marvel in the works to ameliorate the curse of blindness. Without using active sonar, and all the problems that entails, the passive is the only other alternative. And since real estate doesn't give off sound then your options are limited.

you might as well yell “ hey! I’m over here! Indeed. I spent 30 years in ASW and almost never heard active sonar.

Uh huh. It definitely was not the Hunt for Red October….but then I thought Ghislaine Maxwell’s private submarine had to go somewhere when Jeffrey Epstein killed himself. The jury is going to be seated in December. All kinds of DNA in that sub.

Lt. Commander Thomas Dodge is being considered for a third time to captain a submarine. He has been previously passed over because of his unorthodox command methods, a "brushing" incident with a Russian submarine ...

Oh, don't think like that! Damn it to hell, don't go by the book, think like a pirate! I want a man with a tattoo on his dick! Have I got the right man?

“You would have thought they would have detected a Chinese sub before they hit it.”
If you want to get a sense of what it’s like piloting a sub, just get in your car, put a light-tight mask on over your eyes, roll the windows down so you can hear what’s going on around you and drive at 10-20 mph to the store.
The main difference is that if you bump into something in your car, you can stop and get out. Oh, yeah, and military subs don’t have windows.

This is weird. I just finished watching a six-part crime drama series last night titled "Vigil." The program opens with a fishing trawler being snagged by something underwater. The trawler ends up being sunk, and those aboard dead. "Vigil" is a British Trident Nuclear Submarine that was in the area at the time. The actual sub that took down the trawler is revealed later in the series. The program is actually pretty good. The lead character Suranne Jones, plays a civilian DCI, charged with investigating the death of a Vigil crew member. Why the British Navy wouldn't be in charge of investigating the death of one of their own on board the sub, despite the death initially appearing to be an overdose, is beyond me. They explain why they had to call in civilian police in the series, but it still seems weird that they would shuttle a cop out to a sub so she could be lowered into the sub to investigate. Vigil is out at sea on a secret mission, and this outside incursion is causing problems. And of course, Jones plays a troubled woman, who lost the love of her life just when she was going to accept his marriage proposal. In her grief, she turned to one of her female subordinates for comfort, and the relationship became intimate. At the time of the sub incident, they had broken up. The character of the subordinate is played by Rose Leslie from Game of Thrones, and wife of Kit Harrington (Jon Snow). They always have to get the homo or lesbian scenario in these shows. One of the other characters on board the sub is Shaun Evans who plays DS Endeavour Morse in the "Endeavour" series. Martin Compston appears briefly as the crew member who is found dead. He's a regular as Steve Arnott in "Line of Duty." Plenty of other familiar actors/actresses if you watch British TV series as often as I do.
Vigil
I got the series off a British torrent site which I don't use a VPN for, but it's also available on other torrent sites.
