Seems to me that RADAR is nothing more than ACTIVE SONAR except the waves are in the air rather than in the water.

With RADAR you bounce a RADIO SIGNAL off an object to get a location and range, right?

With SONAR you bounce a SOUND SIGNAL off an object to get a location and range, right?

Really don’t know much about either one but that seems the way they work to me.

That’s pretty much right. Both can be passive as well and use the same basic naming structure

If we could get some close-up shots of that Victor III’s mysterious odd pod and under-hull pictures of her sleek frame, there’d be big medals and promotions galore.

LOL damn spooks!

Yes. That’s why I thought it was a great story. Even if it was a load of crap. He insisted though.

Might have been a woman driver applying makeup while looking in the rearview mirror. Or maybe texting while driving.

Also one less American sub, at least for the time it takes to get our boat repaired and back into service.

What, a couple of years?

Roughly. But both can be detected by those you're trying to find.

There is no reason for the news to be reporting this.

I can only imagine how many American lives would be endangered/lost if we ever go to war with China. All in the name of “news.”

Andrew Jackson May (June 24, 1875 – September 6, 1959) was a Kentucky attorney, an influential New Deal-era politician, and chairman of the House Military Affairs Committee during World War II, infamous for his rash disclosure of classified naval information that resulted in the loss of 10 American submarines and 800 sailors,[1] and his subsequent unrelated conviction for bribery. May was a Democratic member of United States House of Representatives from Kentucky during the 72nd to 79th sessions of Congress.[2]

I wonder how many partially submerged or neutrally buoyant containers are hit?

Two vessels in the round the world race hit submerged objects in the 40s and were lost. That would be a horrible wake-up call for a solo sailor.

In a country governed by true patriots Mr. May, following a verdict of guilty, would have been stood before a firing squad and executed.

a simple crystal detector will passively capture radar, you listen and time the scans...
