After appearing to level off somewhat, Pennsylvania’s COVID-19 hospitalizations are rising again.
Across the state, 3,001 patients are being treated for the coronavirus in hospitals, the Pennsylvania Department of Health reported Thursday. That represents an increase of 110 over the previous day. The department says 680 patients are being treated in intensive care units.
This is the first day Pennsylvania has reported more than 3,000 hospitalizations since Feb. 5. New hospital cases had appeared to flatten, even dipping slightly within the last week before rising in the last few days. The number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals remains well below the peak of about 6,300 last December.
Nonetheless, COVID-19 hospitalizations have risen sharply over the last three months. In July, less than 250 people were being treated in hospital beds for the coronavirus.
Health care professionals continue to stress the COVID-19 vaccine offers the strongest protection against serious illness and death due to the coronavirus. From Jan. 1 through early September, 95% of those hospitalized due to COVID-19 in Pennsylvania weren’t fully vaccinated, the health department said. In that same span, 97% of the state’s deaths tied to COVID-19 involved those who weren’t fully vaccinated.
To date, 69.3% of Pennsylvania adults have been fully vaccinated. The state is also ramping up efforts to ensure those eligible for COVID-19 booster shots have access to them.
The health department reported 5,819 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, representing a bit of an uptick. New cases rose steadily throughout the summer but had shown signs of leveling off in recent days. The number of new cases has generally averaged in the 4,000-5,000 range over the past couple of weeks.
In addition, the state reported 92 additional coronavirus deaths Thursday. Since the pandemic began, 29,814 deaths have been tied to COVID-19 in Pennsylvania. Nearly half of the state’s COVID-19 deaths have occurred in long-term care facilities, such as nursing homes.
Hundreds in central Pennsylvania are getting treatment for COVID-19 in hospitals. WellSpan Health reports 258 COVID-19 patients getting treated in the system’s hospitals as of Wednesday. Penn State Health said 110 COVID-19 patients are being cared for in the system’s hospitals as of Wednesday.
State officials and health care providers are also working to get more COVID-19 vaccines into underserved communities. The Hamilton Health Center will host a vaccine clinic Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; the center is located at 100 S. 17th St., Harrisburg.
Since the pandemic began, 1,464,264 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Pennsylvania, according to the health department.
On January 1 very, very few people were "fully vaccinated" when defined as second dose plus two weeks.
I was an early bird and didn't reach that threshold until February 26.

Pennsylvania Ping!
Please ping me with articles of interest.
FReepmail me to be added to the list.
PA’S CoupFlu dashboard says there are plenty of staffed beds available in the state, ventilators, too.
PA counts probables in their CoupFlu case count, BTW.
The spike in cases appears to be moving from south to north in the Northern Hemisphere. Florida peaked around August 12, SC in early September, then Texas, Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee peaked around September 15.
Now the more northern states are kicking in.
Just the flu bro
Being a true freeper I did not read the whole article. Does it contain info on how many of the admissions were vaccinated, fully vaccinated or had already had covid? Do they even want us to know this?
I am not sure how it works in PA, but here in WA if you go to the hospital for anything... they give you a Covid PCR test. If it comes back with a false positive and you are older or have almost any type of medical history they will typically admit you as a Covid patient and keep you under observation for a week or more whether you have symptoms or not.
Our fully vaccinated neighbor went in to be seen for a cut finger. After a couple of hours someone finally cleaned it up for her. But her required Covid test came back positive and they insisted that she needed to be admitted. She has had no medical problems, but she is in her 60s. She didn’t want to waste any more of her time so she told the nurse that she had to use the restroom and then snuck out of the hospital.
She got a couple of threatening phone calls and was afraid to answer the door, but no one ever showed up at her house. She never did develop any Covid type symptoms.
In conjunction with the many lies, more lies and vile lies spewed by “experts” throughout the Fauci Flu, it’s better — and much more healthier (mentally as well as physically) — to just say “uh-huh” and move on.
1.5 million illegals have rammed their way into the country since the communist puppet was installed on Jan 20th Inauguration Day (attended by no one).
And 30% of those illegals have COVID19.
There is a conscious effort, being carried out in many of the venues throughout the US, to amp up the numbers of COVID patients that are being considered “necessary” to hospitalize.
This does not have to be.
Several treatment protocols are available, that if applied early and in sufficient strength, can and do preclude any necessity for hospitalization.
The example of the control of COVID-19 in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India, should provide a guide as to how the “plandemic” can be managed and even pretty much obliterated. This is not the “Spanish flu” of 1918-1919, because for the most part, it is not nearly as deadly, and has a remarkably high recovery rate. Had nothing at all been done in terms of lockdowns, masking and “social distancing”, the disease would have run its course with no more than an particularly bad influenza epidemic, and the economic turmoil the world underwent would have been vastly less damaging.
The disease itself did not kill nearly as many people as the panicked reaction of “authorities” who did so many wrong-headed things to “contain” the outbreak.
But NOOOO, all the “smart” people saw this as an opportunity to do a little social engineering, as in never let a good crisis go to waste.
A lot of research was done, of course, and many sometimes rather startling facts emerged, in that there were ALREADY some pretty effective treatments for the “novel” coronavirus, which was a mutated form of an existing virus particle, most certainly from a laboratory in Wuhan, China, and based on research done here in the US, by a consortium of scientists, some of whom have already been named, and their names are on certain patents.
An anti-malaria drug, based on quinine, and known as hydroxychloroquine, in combination with zinc gluconate, effectively stops the replication of this and every other coronavirus out there. Progress of the disease is stopped cold. No disease, no cause of death from that source.
Read my opening comment.
All one has to do is look at a covid map and see the hotspots and that will tell you where the illegals were sent.
Lots of word games in the statement from Pennlive.
The shots did t start in full swing until when, some time in the spring? So it would make sense that folks in hospitals weren’t FULLY vaccinated.
I’d be curious to see the actual numbers. Was there some consistency month to month across that period? Or were the cases declining and then rising after the shots started and a “new variant” develops, increasing the numbers?
Author makes no mention as to the shot status of the new cases.
Interesting.
Covid cases and deaths in Florida have plummeted since they began widespread use of the monoclonal antibody treatment. It’s the same with several other southern states. Recent spikes seem concentrated in the North, regardless of a state’s overall vaccination rate.
If it comes back with a false positive and you are older or have almost any type of medical history they will typically admit you as a Covid patient and keep you under observation for a week or more whether you have symptoms or not.
Yup. My mother got admitted to one hospital in PA for a reaction to one of her meds. After release, she had another medical issue and they took her to another hospital where she tested positive for C-19. No symptoms at all and others near her tested negative. This was 10-days ago and she’s still there with zero covid symptoms. SMH.
Happens all the time! Especially with older folks who will put up with it. The best thing that you could do for your mom would be to spring her from the hospital with her approval of course... Some old folks like the attention.
Hospitals are the worst place to be right now. If you keep an old person in the hospital long enough they will eventually die. This is how the number of Covid hospitalizations are driven up. The number of Covid deaths are being driven up by counting huge numbers of people who have died from other causes. We have a situation where common sense is being thrown out the window in the pursuit of government funds. This has almost nothing to do with public health.
I live in PA and two weeks ago my wife broke her hand and since then we have been in two hospitals, seen four doctors and have had multiple tests, and not ONCE did a single medical professional say a single word about Chi-com-19.
In the first emergency room, they did ax her if her husband was abusive and beat her.
Not a word about covid, but a gun toten, Trumpster, well he must be a wife beater.
That's how it works in PA.
The best thing that you could do for your mom would be to spring her from the hospital...
Luckily, right after I posted this my sis called and said our mom was just released. The sad part of it was “no visitors!” During her spell in that hospital bed.
Thanks for the response tho. Alls ok 4 now.
