HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (AP) — A massive cargo ship made a series of unusual movements while anchored in the closest spot to a Southern California oil pipeline that ruptured and sent crude washing up on beaches, according to data collected by a marine navigation service...
...The Associated Press reviewed more than two weeks of data from MarineTraffic, a navigation service that tracks radio signals from transponders that broadcast the locations of ships and large boats every few minutes.
That data shows the Rotterdam Express, a German-flagged ship nearly 1,000 feet (305 meters) long, was assigned to anchorage SF-3, the closest to where the pipeline ruptured off Huntington Beach. The ship made three unusual movements over two days that appear to put it over the pipeline....
...AP first contacted Hapag-Lloyd on Tuesday evening, seeking an explanation for the ship’s movements on Sept. 22 and 23.
Nils Haupt, a spokesman at its headquarters in Hamburg, Germany, denied in an email Wednesday that the ship ever moved off anchor from spot SF-3 during that period. He said the transponder data displayed by MarineTraffic is erroneous.
“We have proof by the logbook, which is updated hourly, that the vessel did not move,” Haupt said. “MarineTraffic in this case is wrong and the position is indeed incorrect.”...

These excess cargo ships are there because the biden admin trying to force companies to mandate covid vaccinations. Longshoremen and truckers are being fired and refusing to work. One of these ships dragged anchor over one of those pipes.

Yes, this happened because these ships are being forced to sit off the coast, on anchor, for weeks at a time.
This is part of the supply chain disruption and the Biden Admin has done nothing about it.

Yes, we can, but the shipowner is denying it. Of course.

So, the GPS positioning that can determine within a few feet of where I am at any time of the day or night cannot be trusted to determine the location or movement of a football sized ship. Yup, got it.
Even without deliberate action to conceal or deceive, modern electronics (and its software) are quirky things.
The saddest incident of this I can think of is an incident from early OEF where a SOF team air controller had to execute a battery change in the middle of running a strike mission. During the reboot, the target designation (software) reset the mission aim point to the default - which was observer’s own location. The controller didn’t catch the reset and, for that oops!, gallant men got to be dead.
Turning back to the present incident, the electronics will get sorted out by the IT forensic specialists.
However, the article also says there’s a considerable length of pipeline on the bottom “bent like a bow string.” If the ship snagged the pipeline with its anchor, there maybe some scrapping/scouring damage evident (and possibly even paint residue) on both the anchor and the damaged section of the pipeline. Easy enough to check. The ship has moved up the coast to Oakland. That’s fairly accessible and the pipeline isn’t going anywhere either.

Sooner or later a device or diver will go down an look at the pipe. Should be easy to tell if it was dragged.
and why do they have anchorages near pipelines???
These spills are pretty easily confined. And as we learned for the big gulf spill, mother nature gobbles the oil up....which stunned the "all knowing" environmental nazis.
Well when you and your phone or car move then yes in almost real time the GPS knows where you are.
Now imagine you are 1000’ long and your GPS is located at one end. Now spin around on that axis. The GPS does not move but your other end is now moving in a 2000’ circle.
Normally, they don't. But the ships waiting to get into the LA and Long Beach harbors are lined up along the coast, and the line stretches past Huntington Beach. I have never seen ships off Huntington Beach, where I have been going since the 1950's, until this year.
Guessing the electronic monitoring is more accurate than what is written hourly in a log book. Do these ships have “black box” like airplanes?
