The group said they also believe the Air Force veteran is responsible for killing a sixth victim, 18-year-old Cheri Jo Bates on Oct. 31, 1966 in Riverside, California and stated that detectives recovered “hairs, skin and blood” from under her fingernails. They are calling on the department to test the alleged evidence – which they say is stored in the Northern California city of Vallejo – against that of the person they identified in the case.

Riverside Police Officer Ryan Railsback told Nexstar that his department is unaware of any such physical evidence and questioned where the cold case team was getting its information. Railsback said that Riverside investigators have worked closely with the labs and law enforcement teams to investigate any possible link.

I wrote a book on the similarities between Ted Kaczynski, the Unabomber, and the Zodiac Killer, which shows numerous possible connections between the two. (The Unabomber and the Zodiac, 2007). But ... and this is a big but ... there has never been any smoking gun evidence connecting Zodiac with any particular person, and it doesn't appear that there's any such smoking gun in this case.

I literally went to check FR just now to see if anyone yet posted about this. My reading the FOX link spurred me to it.

Incidentally, a few years back there was an interesting (but not fully credible) documentary on this that I watched. A whole bunch about the Cheri Jo part. So it’s already been posited that Zodiac did this as well.

I went to the case breaker’s website and also did a search using that name and it is reported in several places

The name is Gary Francis Poste (“Post”)

The case breakers believe among other things that he has scars on his forehead from an automobile crash when he was in the Air Force that match the witness identification and composite drawings

They also say they found his his name in one of the cryptograms The zodiac had allegedly bragged that you can find his name in one of the cryptograms

He was from Indiana but they say He had moved to the San Francisco Bay area in the late 60s
