Crude was no longer leaking from a Southern California pipeline believed to be the source of a massive oil spill that closed miles of popular beaches on Sunday, according to the head of the company that owns the facility.
Divers were still trying to determine where and why the leak occurred, but the flow of oil was stopped late Saturday from the line that runs under the ocean off Huntington Beach, said Amplify Energy CEO Martyn Willsher.
At least 126,000 gallons (572,807 liters) of crude spilled into the waters off Orange County starting late Friday or early Saturday when boaters began reporting a sheen in the water, officials said.

Who would damage an oil pipeline? Gee, let me guess.
Look up oil spills at wiki...A little perspective!!
They won’t even notice the toxic sludge. They’ve got 20 million people packed along side the S.CA coast. So bad when it rains, the run off from the cement rivers into the ocean is super toxic where they have to close down miles of beaches.

In 1910 an oil well exploded and spit out 100,000 barrels a day for 544 days. Historical marker flags the site.

Planetina damaged it (Adult Swim reference).
bttt
126,000 gallons is about 20 truck tanker trailer loads.
I wonder if this will be used as a reason to raise California gas prices even higher and keep the platforms shut down?
“He questioned whether drilling for oil was a wise idea along some of Southern California’s most scenic beaches...”
To add to your comment:
Drilling for oil off the California coast is a way to keep oil from naturally seeping thru fissures. In pre-modern history that must have been often enough and in enough quantity that coastal indigenous folks knew to use the tarry residue for waterproofing and passed that skill on to settlers as well as making it a trade item.:
from 2014:
“Today, much of the ocean floor off the coast of California is made of porous sedimentary rock, such as shale, sandstone and limestone, that holds an abundant amount of oil. Although natural seeps are episodic and can lie dormant for long periods, seismic activity such as earthquakes can affect flows. There are over 50 catalogued natural oil seeps between Point Conception and Huntington Beach with the world’s largest being Coal Oil Point in Santa Barbara....
...In fact, observing oil seeps led to much of the early petroleum discoveries in California, and many of the first wells were drilled in areas where seeps existed....”

My bet is on sabotage.
Well, then the Search Feature isn’t working correctly, because that does not come up.
Not sorry.
This is the spill? In the 80's we called this Galveston!
The Pacific Air Show took place Friday and Saturday. It had to be cancelled today.
My, what a coincidence that this unexplained pipe leak occurs on the same dates as the biggest event in HB, in red Orange County, which has gone against Newsolini's decrees.
🤔
Would they (DS) destroy pristine coast line and wildlife to help themselves?
Of course they would.
It's hilarious how they hold themselves up as superior, and that they should be the rightful caretakers of the planet, and the peasants.
THEY DESTROY EVERYTHING THEY TOUCH.
“My bet is on sabotage.”
That was my first thought. There’s no shortage of ecotards in CA.
Gotta be near or more of a hundred Oil Tanker ships off shore....Long Beach Harbor...Not far from Orange Co. Huntington, Newport, Laguna....beaches.
And I'm pretty certain the current is south now...
Used to live and surf there.....long time ago.
FWIW---
Yeah, I remember when that well off of Mexico blew out for months and flooded the Texas beaches with earl. Ixtoc.
And less than 5 railroad tank car loads. To call 5 tank cars derailing & landing in a creek somewhere a "massive" spill, you would have to be pretty desperate for a headline/clicks. I guess 'fake newsers' are gonna fake the news...
Not to drag up something old but today I’m just seeing this on FOX.
Not seeing anything on FR up to date, or at least about the griping about it.
It IS bad, but frankly a lawyer going on about how terrible it is and we’ll suffer for years and years….BS.
Exxon Valdez, the Gulf of Mexico….just opportunities for EnviroMentals to scream and shout about how horrible we are and should go back to the Stone Age. In truth, while awful, these things were cleared up rather quickly and did NOT have the “devastation” on (violin please) sea life and shore that they make it out to be.
Kind of like COVID now.
