Atlanta's wealthiest suburb is edging closer to separating itself from the city as it introduces a bill to Georgia's legislature that goes up for a vote next year.
With rising crime rates in Atlanta, Bill White, the CEO of Buckhead City Committee (BCC), is pushing for the suburb where the average house price costs $1.4 million, to 'divorce' itself from Atlanta.
'We are living in a war zone in Buckhead,' White told Bloomberg Businessweek. 'Shootings and killings, it just never ends.'

Welcome to the new ‘South Chicago’.
Whether you want to call it secession or divorce, it looks like it’s starting to pick up steam.
Big city life ain’t what it used to be.☺
How does a suburb “divorce” itself from its urban area?
They’ll never let it happen.
There’s real money and old money in Buckhead that ain’t happy. This will go forward.
TY
Atlanta is a cancer that just keeps spreading. The Coweta County Fair was shut down last weekend due to fights breaking out.
If you have an average household income of over $200K, you don’t take orders, you give orders.
They keep calling it a ‘suburb’ but I take it that Buckhead is really part of Atlanta proper and want to incorporate separately? So if they do so then how long before they can set up their own police, their own fire, their own city services?
Forming their own PD will help some. But the bigger problem is Atlanta is going downhill at an accelerating speed.
How tall a fence are they going to build?
Really!
Nowadays there are more murders/shootings in 3 weekends in Chicago, than all the gangland Chicago shooting of the 1920s through the 1940s.
Ugly facts.
I’m guessing it’s part of the city proper, and when it’s initiated by the city, it’s called “de-annexation.”
There have been rumblings about resurrecting “Milton County” (formerly part of Fulton County).
Micro-Rhodesia
Many Southern states have procedures for municipal secession, with legislatures otherwise able to contrive one if needed. Buckhead has long eyed Atlanta proper with a combination of wariness, fear, and disdain due to crime, corruption, and dysfunction.
“So if they do so then how long before they can set up their own police, their own fire, their own city services?”
They can’t afford to go long without police. Hopefully they have a plan to establish their own police dept before any separation happens.
Going to have to build a 15 ft tall wall with concertina wire to keep out the thugs
