Sen. Chuck Schumer kept the $1.5 trillion reconciliation signed deal with Sen. Joe Manchin hidden from Rep. Nancy Pelosi until this week, Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) told CNN on Friday.
“She had no knowledge of that until this week,” Dingell said of the senators’ agreement that was revealed Thursday.
The signed document by both men states the “topline” number for the reconciliation package would be $1.5 trillion with debate on the package beginning no later than October 1. The agreement also stipulates agreement on raising the corporate tax rate to 25 percent, the top tax rate on income to 39.6 percent, and the capital gains tax rate to 28 percent.
It is unknown why Schumer would withhold the signed promise from Pelosi. But the surprise of the agreement was likely not a happy one for the House speaker, as the House Democrats have been looking for assurances the reconciliation package would include many radical measures.
Though Manchin’s agreement with Schumer includes tax hikes and $1.5 trillion in spending on top of the $1.2 “bipartisan” infrastructure bill, the far-left in the House have said the original $3.5 trillion topline number is not enough spending and falls short of the assurances they seek.
As a result, the far-left, led by Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), are opposing the “bipartisan” bill until a framework is hammered out on the reconciliation package.
“I have never seen our caucus so strong,” Jayapal said about the opposition to the “bipartisan” bill. “And I’m a very good vote counter, also, maybe not quite as good as Nancy Pelosi sometimes, but I’m excellent.”

This article misrepresents pretty much every fact. This was not an agreement signed off on by Schumer, it was Manchin’s demands, signed off on by Schumer, but not agreed to by the latter. Schumer passed this memo on to the White House, who have been aware of it since it happened, AND it was reported at the time, though not released.
First they decide how much they can get away with as a top number, later they will consider what goes in the bill. How screwed up is that?
You can bet the farm that many important needs are going to be punted in order to make room for the the liberal pet projects.
Well they’ve already spent 40+ plus years punting the most important need which is securing borders and keeping out foreign invaders. So anything else is just re-arranging deck chairs on the sinking ship.
I was listening to a historian talk about WWII. One of the things he pointed out was there was always a broad agreement hammered out amongst the allies and they largely stuck to it. The Axis powers kept their intentions secret from each other. Thus Italy went into Greece and Africa without telling Hitler. The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor without notifying anyone. In short, they didn’t trust one another and that lack of trust kept tripping them up. They were only allies of convenience in that they broadly faced the same enemy. The same appears true of today’s Democrats. Although, calling them a party is probably only a label. It’s almost as if they were at least three parties. A far, far left who thinks most of the Democrats are on the right. A middle, which is too fractured in itself to be relevant and, a (sort-of) right. Although that right is so far left the Soviets would have felt kinship.
It could be much worse. They could be unified under one charismatic leader who didn’t have one foot in the grave. (We’ll need to worry when someone young, and with a spectacular mustache appears among them. Then, all the other “leaders” will suffer astonishingly unlikely accidents, like fatal paper cuts and leave the new leader with their mantle.)
Just saying a signed deal holds no weight. They can only do that as an act of faith. Its not a legal document in any fashion. Senators cannot sign their votes away.
The republicans are children letting the bullies keep them down trodden, weak, and
Too lazy to put up a fight.
It did, but got lost in translation
The Japanese Embassy in Washington was still working on it while the bombs were dropping.
This makes Pelosi look bad either way. If she knew about this Manchin memo, she failed to sway any of the radicals to reduce their demands. If she didn’t know about this, then that means Schumer couldn’t trust her not to let it slip.
Democrats signing deals with Democrats on how much they plan to steal from the taxpayer ,D’oh
Day 1 a new car costs me 25,000 dollars.
Day 2 Government taxes on Ford add 500 dollars to the cost of the car.
Day three that car costs me 25,500 dollars.
It is that simple. A tax on corporations is a tax on the consumer. If Ford did not raise the price they would go out of business. The government loves taxing corporations as the buyer does not see the taxes on the sticker. It also makes us less competitive in the world market.
It’s not because they’re lazy, it’s because they want these bills to pass just as much as the democraps do, they just have to put up some broken resistance to fool the stupid people back home.
William Shirer in his “Rise And Fall Of The Third Reich” stated that Hitler was furious when he was told of Pearl Harbor after the fact. It sent him into a blind rage that lasted most of the day. He had similar reactions to Italy’s unannounced incursions into Greece and North Africa.
CC
Hell of a time for Japan to have a crappy typist.
CC
Multiple years of low/failing businesses & they want to raise the taxes on same businesses.
OR for the USA to have a crappy translator.......
Schumer is Wall Street’s trained b!tch. Manchin is playing this “moderate” game so Schumer doesn’t have to vote against a bill that harms Wall Street.
NICE TAKE-——the money quote:
Calling Democrats a party is only a label.....they are at least three entities.
A far, far left who thinks most of the Democrats are on the right.
A middle, which is too fractured in itself to be relevant
A sort of right that is so far left the Soviets would have felt kinship.
It could be much worse. They could be unified under one charismatic leader .......not one w/ one foot in the grave.

"I'll take Choom Gang Puppetmaster for $1000, Mayim."
It's distressing to see so many Freepers bringing this kind of ignorance to the discussion.
How many taxes does the government impose on Ford that actually raises the price of the car by $500? Corporate taxes are imposed on profits, not on production processes.
On Day 1, Ford produces a car for $20,000 and sells it for $25,000. The government imposes a 20% corporate tax on the profit, so 20% of $5,000 is $1,000.
On Day 2, the government doubles the corporate tax from 20% to 40%. The tax Ford pays on the profit doubles from $1,000 to $2,000.
On Day 3, the cost of producing the car hasn't changed one penny. If the $25,000 car now costs me $25,500 it is for reasons that have nothing to do with the corporate tax changes.
