The “Back the Blue” slogan has been a regular part of our lexicon for the last few years, in particular as we’ve seen the rise of violent protests from the likes of Black Lives Matter and Antifa, with much of their hate and vitriol being hurled at our men and women in law enforcement. When you add to that the amount of betrayal these same law enforcement officers have endured from their own superior officers and their cities’ leaders, then the idea of decent, patriotic and commonsense people standing up for them is not at all a stretch.
Many of us have close friends and family that are in law enforcement, so this is very much a personal and up-close issue. I have an uncle, two good friends, a brother-in-law and a nephew who are all police officers, and my own father spent a few years on our local small-town police force when I was a kid. So the idea of “backing the blue” is indeed very personal to me and something I take seriously. Generally, when a controversy arises regarding a officer-involved incident, my tendency is towards believing the story of the police versus the alleged perpetrator until more is known.
However, my thoughts on this issue have taken a sharp turn in recent months, directly relating to behavior I’ve witnessed from law enforcement, particularly during the time of COVID lockdowns and restrictions. This is not to say I no longer “back the blue.” Rather, it is to say that I no longer do so in a nearly unconditional way. Similar to how President Reagan had a “Trust but Verify” policy regarding the Soviets during the Cold War, I think along the same lines toward law enforcement now.

Bottom line, we’re all on our own to take care of ourselves. That includes law enforcement and healthcare. Nobody is looking out for us. Even our church, when we were extremely sick last week ... Not even one phone call.

While they get to keep theirs, even personal arms. No... they should be held to the very same laws everyone else is. If we do not get arms they do not get arms. Let them do their job with a Bamboo cane.

The only reason they are silent on gun control is because they are “special” and exempt from the gun laws. This crap will stop when they also have something to lose and forced become helpless victims just like the rest of us.

That is terrible... Couple times in our lives we “found out how our friends really are” like that. My wife and I can only count three true friends throughout our lifetime. We quit wasting time on those who are not and our lives got a whole lot simpler.

I know. It was quite the eye opener, after having been raised in a parsonage where Mom and Dad had the pulse of everything that was going on. They knew who was sick and spent time with them. Mom managed the prayer chain. They saw that meals were delivered daily, and they (meaning “we”) took care of the children whose parents were sick. If you attended the church — not even necessarily a member — you were important. Churches had a heart.
I recall how I met my best friend when we were three years old. This was 1951, south of Buffalo. One day, a knock came on our front door, and a pathetic couple were standing there asking for help. Their newborn had just died. They wanted to bury the baby down in PA in the family cemetery, but had no money to make the trip and no dependable car.
Poor country preacher, Dad had no money, either, but he and Mom packed up that family and drove them, including the deceased baby, down to PA to be buried. We didn’t know them; they didn’t know us. It’s what Christians did. A bond was formed and they became one of the stalwart families of the church. Their daughter became my best friend, and still is.
I don’t know if it’s a sign of the times in general, or this particular church. I just expected better from Bible Belt TN churches.
It is happening everywhere. Good friend of mine is LDS. Apparently there is also a division between those who are truly moral and the “business” the Church has now become over morality.
Unfortunately “Righteous greed and selfishness” is spreading to every corner of every doctrine. We have realized that all we truly have and can trust is direct Clan. Everyone else is just a burr under our saddle with the problems they bring along with them.
But in turn... They may be thinking the same way, and why they did not extend a hand when it would have been welcomed by yourself. Sounds like a question to raise in Church before you fire them yet. :)
This thread sounds like a BLM/Antifa love fest. I back the blue to a point but you all toss them all into one negative they are all thugs stereotype which is pure bigotry. My son is a new officer and I have warned him: the left hates him and always will, and sadly that some conservatives are worse they will use you and support you to a point but God forbid if you screw up, unintentional whatever they will crucify you just like the leftist, you have to be a perfect human being 24/7/52 with them even though they know its not possible to do so. They will judge you as a group and hate and persecute you and then both will have the nerve to call you and ask and demand your help and you will show up and help or at least try to help them and then both curse you in the end.
Still he wanted to be an officer and help protect those who can’t protect themselves. He beat up bullies as a kid who would be going after weaker kids. I have always taught him to respect the Bill of Rights and to actually behave like Andy and talk to people and listen, you will be respected by those who will judge you on your behavior and actions, when they call the police they will ask for you because they know you will give them a fair shake. And remember the leftist and the hypocritical conservatives they are going to hate regardless. Avoid being Barney, but that when you confront evil go dirty Harry if you have too.
Our little punk governor has had mask mandates and other usual covid related mandates and my son and his department have refused to enforce a single mandate from his office because they are not state law. He is appalled at the behavior of the Australian police department as are the officers in his department that have seen the videos.
It’s sad that bigots hate my son and other officers for simply putting on the uniform. Him and many officers are just as angry as you are about those who choose to abuse their power but it makes no difference, haters are going to hate. I just hope you all have to courage of your convictions and NEVER call the police for anything but you won’t.

I don’t back the blue either. Their double standards in cracking down on certain behaviors and segments of the population while ignoring others is a big problem.
Lately, I’ve been noticing the way the police drive and if a non LEO did any of the stuff they do we would have the book thrown at us.
Qualified Immunity is a crock of shi# as well.
