Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been criticised for leaving on vacation during Canada's first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The new federal holiday honours thousands of indigenous children who were forcefully assimilated in Canada's state-backed residential school system.
Mr Trudeau's daily schedule had indicated he would spend the day in private meetings in the capital Ottawa.
Instead he was spotted with family on the beach in Tofino, British Columbia.
Mr Trudeau's office later amended his itinerary and, in a statement to CBC News, a spokesperson admitted: "Yes, the PM is spending time in Tofino with family for a few days."

I DO hope that at least SOME of the folks, who voted Princess Justine Castro back into power are happy and proud of the way that their chosen Dreamy-Boy continues to lead Canada from behind...
But of course, most of us have come to realise that normal standards of behaviour and accountability don't apply to left wingers. These days, hypocrisy is apparently a career-enhancer if you're a lefty.
If Stephen Harper had pulled the same stunt, the Liberal Party organs like the CBC would have been on his arse 24/7 and calling for his resignation...

Trudeau has no interest in either truth or reconciliation.
Miss the days of Mr Harper
Trudeau’s always taking family vacations. He thinks he’s a King.

An organization and a committee of experts formed to search for the elusive remains have both lost funding in the past month, following four years of searches that have found zero remains. The Survivors’ Secretariat and the committee both say they have lost funding this year, the CBC reported.
One of the committee’s founding members, Crystal Gail Fraser, told the outlet in mid-February that the National Advisory Committee on Residential Schools Missing Children and Unmarked Burials would have to stop operating when its current funding agreement expires at the end of March.
Around the same time, the leader of Survivors’ Secretariat, Laura Arndt, told the CBC that funding for her nonprofit was also cut, though she believes the cut was due to criticism of the liberal government.
..The committee and organization’s entire existence is based on the notion that hundreds of children were killed at residential schools and buried in unmarked graves – a narrative that has seemingly fallen apart. The initial claims in 2021 led to apologies, riots, and the vandalism or burning of 55 Canadian churches,
The narrative began to fall apart in early 2022, less than a year after it made national headlines, the preliminary report on the remains was “based on depressions and abnormalities in the soil of an apple orchard near the school – not on exhumed remains,”
