Found some good advice.

BURY YOUR GUNS?

Lather them with gun packing grease cosmoline rust preventive. Axle or high temperature bearing grease could work too. When you take them out, one can clean off with an alcohol or acetone base liquid like gasoline or thinner. Next wrap the guns in wax butcher paper before placing them in the pipe. Do NOT use plastic....Plastic sweats meaning condensates, which leads to rust.
Put them in an eight or 10-inch PVC pipe. One can cut pieces to accommodate long guns or handguns. A couple of caps or a threaded plug can be used on either side and you can tighten these up further by sealing any gaps with silicone caulk. https://www.guns.com/news/2015/02/21/bury-your-guns

What about your ammo?

Buy mil-spec factory ammo—you’ll know it’s sealed by the red dye around the primer. Cold temperatures are horrible on ammo—it messes up the powder inside the casing and will result in low-pressures. To avoid this, you’ll need to go below the frost line when you dig your hole. Depending on what part of the country that is, about four feet should suffice (no worries, metal detectors won’t usually detect down that far). Also, don’t forget extra magazines and little lube (not grease) to keep them nice. Again, don’t wrap anything in plastic.
Chances are, if the ammunition has been made in the last century, and has been stored reasonably well, then it’ll still be good. If you come across a box (or can or pallet) of ammo made after WWII, and the exterior doesn’t show signs of obvious damage or corrosion, it should be fine. For storage, the biggest thing is to keep it from resting in water. Keep it in some kind of waterproof container. Double-bagging, using a vacuum sealer, and related strategies should all work fine. Avoid freezing, as this can cause some gunpowders to “crack” – to make smaller particles. While it may not seem to be a big deal, it can greatly increase the surface area of each small particle of the propellent. Which can cause it to burn faster. Which can cause over-pressure. If you bury your guns, then it’s too late.

If you wait until the wolf is at your door, then you’re too late. Yeah, you may get a few before they get you. But then, who will be left to defend your family? Don’t be a martyr. Be a survivor. Survivors live to fight more than one day.

It’s past the time for you to become proficient with your guns. You can bet that those coming for your guns will have a certain degree of proficiency.

“The point in all of this is deterrence. Make them think twice about grabbing guns because the cost will be way too high.”

That’s the whole point of the 2nd Amendment - to deter. Either to deter foreign invaders, or to deter the would-be tyrants among us. So far, it has worked (though we did need to have the militia add its weight and firepower to the regular Army in the War of 1812 to make sure that the Limeys and other foreigners took us seriously).

“When they come to collect those guns they know about they will ask you. Are there any other guns we might find if we search your property? They will also make it known that lying when they ask lands you in prison for 20 years automatically. How are you going to answer?” With silence. You cannot lie if you have not answered the question.“

Ah, so you are counting on communist thugs to respect your right to remain silent. I have my doubts that fairness will be a priority. Think about how the ATF have conducted themselves in the past. Do you really think Commie controlled thugs are going to be better?

People in Austin Texas should report their guns were stolen. I doubt if the police would show up.

If they jump the gun on anything, who knows. I doubt they will though, at least about something that would make people resist at the time and risk everything.

The smartest strategy to me would be to wait. I think people will probably tolerate almost anything as long as they are the fattest, most passively entertained and least used to sustained physical labor ever as it happens to them. Which I guess applies to the present, but I’d still like to believe there would be resistance now about some things.

They would have to do the entire country from outerspace to find everything.

I’m not burying ammo or guns. It’s the hill I die on. Take our guns and we are slaves even more than we are now. They disarm us we’ll be turned into Soylent Green.

I’ve heard the same thing. Sounds like an ordeal to carry out but might be worth it in the end.

They have to know who has guns to know whose stuff to start shutting off and if someone bought all their stuff through private sales they don’t know jack.

Again this mindset makes it clear guns are useless for our side and we have already lost. I want to add we lost this battle a long time ago when we collectively took brute force off the table. You can’t do that, ever. Diplomacy is utterly useless unless it’s backed by the potential and willingness to back it up with brute force. The latter is where we failed.
.....................................
Well and truly said. On the other hand there have been mass movements here and in other countries in which tens of thousands of unarmed citizens have forced tyrannical governments to end human rights abuses or be overthrown.

The “I will bury my gun before I surrender it crowd” crack me up. If you bury your gun you will never ever ever go dig it up for any reason. You might as well surrender it.

When I went to Russia in 1997, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, people would tell me about the 'special garden' that great-grandpapa kept. He'd grow vegetables on 80% of it, but one area, instead of pouring water, he'd pour oil.

The implication was that he kept WWII era full-autos or bolt-actions, buried. However, we see how useful buried weapons were. The Soviet Union did not collapse because men with guns forced it to. The Soviet Union collapsed because they ran out of rubles to pay their government people or their military.
