When I was young I dated a guy who’d done a stint in the Navy, and he once told me that in the military you aren’t considered ‘responsible’ for anything you do within a short time of being awakened - I can’t remember how long, but I think it only amounted to seconds. I’ve always wondered if that is true or I somehow misunderstood it...
I was in the Navy and we were told to never touch anyone to wake them. Kind of made sense...

When I was stationed in Germany, we were doing a field rotation in Hohenfels. One night my platoon sergeant came to wake me up for guard duty. I sat up in my bunk, decked him, and laid back down as if nothing happened.
From that point on anytime I had guard duty it was the first shift.
