Analysis: Texas politicians are thinking what they think their voters think they should think

You might wonder why the top state leaders have supported restrictive voting legislation, ordered audits of elections they won, and passed laws that counter what most Texans think is the proper policy on abortion or guns.

You might or might not like this answer: Those elected officials are doing what they think their voters expect.

Not all voters. Their voters.

It’s fashionable to gripe about polls, but they can expose voter sentiment and reveal, sometimes, why elected officials act the way they do.

When former President Donald Trump, who remains popular with Republican voters in Texas, pushes Republican Gov. Greg Abbott to do something — and does it publicly — it’s risky for Abbott to ignore him.

The author of this piece probably thinks he's the cleverest person ever, to have figured this out all by himself.

But he's apparently never before grasped the principle of representative government.

An elected representative acts in the people's stead, speaking for them because they can't all be there.

Yes,Captain Obvious...but it was clearly motivated by a deep contempt for those voters who support wild ideas like...the 2nd Amendment...secure borders...unemployment rate of 3%...gasoline at $1.85 a gallon....two genders, two sexes,no changes possible...letting foreign leaders know that the free ride is over...accepting that man made "climate change" is a lot of bullbleep...

You know the type.

I wouldn’t be so sure.

The politicians might be thinking that they are thinking differently than their voters think they should think, but they’re just making the voters think that the politicians are thinking like the voters think they should think.

Don't know if you're aware of it but you sound *just* like "Yes,Prime Minister"...one of the greatest British comedies *and* Margaret Thatcher's favorite TV show when she was in power.

Check it out if you have time...there are many clips on youtube.

“An elected representative acts in the people’s stead, speaking for them because they can’t all be there.”

This very salient fact should be mentioned to our Congress Critters loudly and often. Many say ‘I will represent your political position’ while on the campaign trail but seem to forget that statement as soon as they arrive in WDC.

Of course with Nazi Pelousey’s minions making the rounds warning each new rep that deviating from her leftist dogma will result in dire events being visited upon the rep and/or his/her family, it is easy to understand why party over constituents seems to be the prevailing attitude.

I sincerely believe that acts of physical violence are part of the left’s tool box of persuasive techniques. History has many examples of it.

“You might wonder why the top state leaders have supported restrictive voting legislation, ordered audits of elections they won, and passed laws that counter what most Texans think is the proper policy on abortion or guns.”

Voting: I WISH we could go back to in-person voting only Election Day. The system now is insanely easy to cheat.

Audits: Perhaps if the GOP were doing audits when they did still win, like Trump tried in 2016, we wouldn’t need to do the contentious audits when we lose.

Abortion: When Democrats run on baby killing they get destroyed in statewide elections, even when they have $100M to try to win with, as the Abortion Barbie learned.

Guns: Most Americans, and certainly most Texans actually do support gun ownership for people who are not felons.

That right there would mean that people don't want politicians to be allowed to own guns.

“what most Texans think is the proper policy”

This idiot just can’t believe most of us in Texas do not agree with him.

That was a truly inspired show. I still enjoy Sir. Humphrey’s speech on The European Project.

Wow. Just wow. And I agree-this author probably thinks he has it all figured out. He has build the framework in his head to support his pretzel logic.

Leftism is indeed a mental disorder.

I've loved British comedies...and dramas...and documentaries...since the 60s. I can't decide whether Yes,Prime Minister,Fawlty Towers or Blackadder is my favorite comedy.

Sir Humphrey on the European Union was a classic! "Yes,germany is a member in the hope of regaining membership in the human race after the Nazis".

Blackadder and Fawlty Towers are also excellent. I will never forget the FT episode in which Basil thrashes his Austin 1100 with a tree branch while cursing at it. Allo Allo is another favourite of mine.

'Allo,'Allo...."good moaning".

Your spelling of "favorite" suggests Canada or Britain. That might explain your good taste in comedy! ;-)

Nice piece of propaganda. But that’s something the British have always been good at. Other human qualities...well...
