Supply crisis: 'Catastrophic' panic buying of fuel 'going to get worse', says industry expert
SKY News ^ | September 25, 2021 | By David Mercer

UK - Panicked motorists have caused lengthy queues at petrol stations for a second day - as an industry expert predicted the "catastrophic situation" is going to get worse before it improves.

Long lines of cars continued to form at forecourts across the country on Saturday after a shortage of HGV drivers forced some fuel retailers to shut their pumps and ration sales.

The petrol problems come after retailers warned a solution to the lack of truckers must be found within days to avoid "significant disruption" in the run-up to Christmas.

Sky News understands that Boris Johnson has allowed minsters to relax immigration rules and up to 5,000 temporary visas could be issued to foreign lorry drivers.

Brian Madderson, chairman of the Petrol Retailers Association, described the panic buying as a "catastrophic situation" and said he had witnessed queues up to a mile long at forecourts.

He told Sky News: "There's enough fuel at the refineries and terminals to supply the normal demand.

"What we have at the moment is abnormal demand where everyone is rushing to fill up their vehicles."

He added: "It is a crisis situation that has developed very quickly."

"I think this situation is going to get worse before it gets better," he added.

How about a 3 month wait on a water pump for your big rig? So many stories at this link.

This is an escalating problem. Trucks need parts regularity and often. Usually a water pump goes out, truck is down a few days, then back on the road.

As parts go out and the trucks are down for extended period, you’ll get a higher and higher percentage of trucks that are down, which just so happens to aggravate the problem.

“But I wonder about the resale on the RAV Hybrid because of the high cost of the battery replacement.”

I’ve known EV drivers for years now but I’ve never known one that replaced a battery. EVs or ICEs, most Americans waste more money on cars than anything else in their lives.

“..most Americans waste more money on cars than anything else in their lives.”

You bet. New cars are the worst investment imaginable and I know this from first hand experience. But I love cars and I indulge myself.

Another strategic reserve, eh?

I’ve noticed a lot of people stocking up on TP in the stores lately.

Third world countries constantly run out of stuff.

The government always has reasons, justifications and excuses—but they are lies.

Every time.

It is the command economy (regulations particularly) that destroy the market’s ability to properly respond to demand—at every step of the production chain.

In this case it is the Covid rules and the vaxx mandate rules that are turning the economy into a dumpster fire.

Like I said, it is probably my wife’s last car. She’s not that old, but old enough, and drives little enough. Lady’s choice. The Rav4 Prime is “only” about 42k (not the XSE, the SE). She wouldn’t know what to do with all the added electronics in the XSE.

Prius....
I heard from a tow truck driver that the early designs of Prius, when the battery had to be replaced for a lot of money, the owners one by one all said “Oh, I’ll get along running it as 100% gas now.” He said the company caught on and made it mandatory to replace the expensive battery when it went bad.

Like the first catalytic converters owners cut off and threw them away but in later years the engine and sensor for back pressure of the exhaust system sensed there was no converter and didn’t keep running. That’s what someone told me.

All that is secondhand knowledge so I might be wrong if he was. Sounds like human nature, though. Mother Jones had a cartoon showing a guy with his nose held high driving a “Pious.” I did not buy the issue-—just saw the cartoon.

Prepper Ping - Shortages of Petrol and Truck/Delivery Drivers in the UK
Shortages coming to America before Christmas ?
Shop now for products that are in the store now - there is a good chance there won't be a re-supply closer to the Holidays !
With fuel shortages, is the answer to go all electric ( infrastructure unable to provide current needs, what about in the future)

cgbg :" Shortages are an integral part of a “progressive” country. "

" The petrol problems (in the UK)come after retailers warned a solution to the lack of truckers must be found
within days to avoid "significant disruption" in the run-up to Christmas."

Sky News understands that Boris Johnson has allowed minsters to relax immigration rules and up to 5,000 temporary visas could be issued to foreign lorry drivers."

(My Comment) : Socialism is a slow roll into shortages and chaos (Verification check is the current status of Venezuela)
Prepare now !

We just bought a Rav4 Prime, plug in hybrid, with a 42 mile range on electric only. In the seven weeks we have had it, we have not burned an ounce of gasoline. Almost everything we need is within five miles. At current prices of gas and electricity, electricity costs half what gasoline does.

You should probably skip charging that car for one week each month, just to let the engine run and use the gasoline that's in the tank. Let it go too long and the gasoline will really mess up the fuel system. A splash of fuel stabilizer when pumping the fresh gas in would be a good idea, too.

Idiot Boris said that “After Trump, Biden is like a breath of fresh air.” He said it just recently.

Who in America is going to buy British goods, Boris, when America’s economy collapses?

Boris is about to have a bad hair day EVERYDAY.

I have a plug-in hybrid Ford Fusion Energi, and the car automatically switches to use the internal combustion engine (rather than the battery) when the gas has been in the tank for a certain time.
Not sure how long this is, because I take enough highway trips to burn a tank of gas every 2 months or so.

Remember that part of California’s solution to combat wildfires was shutting down part of the grid - and electric vehicle owners in those places couldn’t recharge the cars. Unless you have no natural disasters, that risk shouldn’t be overlooked.

That’s a clever feature. My office has a Kia Niro plug-in hybrid in the motor pool that I’m certain hasn’t been driven in the past year; I should probably go see if it’ll boot up and run. I should glance though the operator’s manual and see if a similar feature is mentioned, as well.
