The bill is called the “Digital Asset Market Structure and Investor Protection Act”2) (“Digital Asset Bill”). And for the majority, it sets out future rules for crypto. However, hidden in this bill, changes to the foundation of the Dollar are proposed.
... After looking at what the FED is and isn’t allowed to do, we can look at how their authority is to be expanded. According to the Digital Asset Bill, section 11 of the Federal Reserve Act is to be amended to provide the Federal Reserve Board with new powers:
“(d) To supervise and regulate through the Secretary of the Treasury the issue and retirement of Federal Reserve notes (both physical and digital), except for the cancellation and destruction, and accounting with respect to such cancellation and destruction, of notes unfit for circulation, and to prescribe rules and regulations (including appropriate technology) under which such notes may be delivered by the Secretary of the Treasury to the Federal Reserve agents applying therefor.” 6) So far so good. But the next section, contains the real story. According to the Digital Asset bill, Federal Reserve notes will in the future also be issued digitally:
“Federal reserve notes, to be issued at the discretion of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System for the purpose of making advances to Federal reserve banks through the Federal reserve agents as hereinafter set forth and for no other purpose, are authorized.

Remove the independence from government surveillance and control that has largely existed up to now, and a lot of those who are “all in” on the cryptos, plus many considering it in the future, are going to say, “Eh, maybe not, they just took away all of the reasons why I am/wanted to be in this stuff.”
Between China’s action and this bill (whether it passes and becomes law or not doesn’t matter - someday something similar enough WILL), I think that crypto-currency just died. Like liberty, TPTB don’t like it and will do everything in their considerable power to end it as quickly and as finally as possible.

Yup, those who pine for control over others, the more the merrier, are simply drooling about this. The only thing better (or at least the most complementary thing possible) would be to confiscate firearms from the populace. But it looks like they won’t have to - they’ll be able to starve and/or freeze us to death first. Hell, they may even go soft and offer a fair (digital) price for our guns & ammo, and even leave us alone for a little while if we sell it to them. But controlling the money is controlling the society - without any doubts whatsoever. As you pointed out, that’s exactly what a digital currency will hand to those who most like to exercise power.

I hate the idea of Digital Currency but as we all know the younger generations will soak it right up as they’re fully conditioned for it.
I recall when Credit cards were the thing....then Debit Cards.....and it really didn’t take long for the public to be on board. Even then we knew where that was headed once computers hit the market in a big way.
So this really isn’t surprising.
