Exactly.
The Elgin Marbles are only as intact as they are because the Brits had them instead of the Greeks.

King Arthur: Go and tell your master that we have been charged by God with a sacred quest. If he will give us food and shelter for the night, he can join us in our quest for the Holy Grail.

French Soldier: Well, I’ll ask him, but I don’t think he will be very keen. Uh, he’s already got one, you see.

King Arthur: What?

Sir Galahad: He said they’ve already got one!

King Arthur: Are you sure he’s got one?

French Soldier: Oh yes, it’s very nice!

I found them on the road, Officer! I don’t know how they managed to get into that false bottom in my suitcase...

The “Greeks” of today have a much claim on the art and architecture of the ancients Greeks as do today’s Arabs on the pyramids of Egypt. None, zip, zero, Nada.

#1 - They only want the artifacts to melt them down.
#2 - Of course they were stolen, dumb@sses. Like our border, everything was left open and anyone who actually cared was chased off/attacked/went home.
#3 - Should’ve gone English on them and taken them for our own museums. They would still exist and be available to future generations. Still cracks me up the Egyptians want their mummies back. Those would’ve been stolen, chopped up and pawned generations ago if it weren’t for the English’ penchant to preserve history.

In Iraq some major artifacts were hidden by museum workers and subsequently restored to the government. Let us hope that some faithful museum workers have done something similar in Afghanistqan.

I too saw the treasures years ago and am hoping a lot was hidden to await better times.

Hiding such things began when the jihadist revolt against the Russian puppet regime started, and the people who hid it have probably died from Islamofascism, fighting in the war itself, or old age -- or have fled.

Bukharan Jews mostly fled across border into areas with their kindred in neighboring Central Asias post-Soviet successor states, some few moved to Israel. Judaism antedates Islam in Central Asia by hundreds of years.

I’ve heard that in the 1800s mummies were burned in the fire boxes of steam trains in Egypt.
