Ya gotta wonder if the rapture happened and the world governments are coverin’ it up! :P

What’s odd is that the welfare has to have dried up already. At least in my red state September was THE last month yet there are now hiring signs everywhere with stores closing.

There can’t be THAT much of a shortage unless people are just really scared of covid after being programmed for a year (and I know some that are)

You echo my thoughts exactly. But, bear in mind the Uncle Sugar unemployment really just ended a week or two ago. It might take another couple of weeks for folks to feel the pain and realize that even Sleepy Joe and the Dims aren’t going to reinstate this. So I think many will begin to take gainful employment.

And I question how many are in fear. I had a convo with a person at my company (but in another city) today. We are supposed to begin returning to our offices next month. It’s a “once more - with feeling” kind of thing, since they tried it this summer, but then turned up a couple of positive covid tests, and most likely some whiney staff. So they stopped it. But this gal I talked to is still very afraid!!!

I have to wonder if there’s not some drama queening going on.

Yeah, the monthly $300 that the feds were paying not to work ended shortly after Labor Day. It will take a while before we know if the labor shortage has been remedied. So many jobs out there I would take my time to find a good job with a decent wage.

I was listening yesterday to some “experts” are discussing this very aberration. The welfare has stopped for many, but they are not going back to work. “Experts” are trying to figure out why?

They think...and that does mean guess...part of the issue is the Child Care Tax Credit people are now getting monthly instead of at tax time. The savings rate sky rocketed during the pandemic by something like 37% is what they said, so many are now living off their savings(dumb move, but it is their life).

There is something else going on and no one is grasping it. It could be that many learned they could live with less, on less, and with the recalibrated budgets due to the pandemic rediscovered the value in time spent with family, friends and loved ones. Couple a recalibrated family budget, mask mandates, vaccine mandates, digital vaccine passports collecting your data, what many parents saw their kids learning via Zoom, and I think people are just not going to be coming back to work very soon. If they come back at all.

The age of consumerism is over. Many may have realized they didn’t need a two income lifestyle. Minimalism was a trend before the pandemic and those toying with the idea found out...it does indeed deliver on a far less stressful lifestyle.

People can be pickier about jobs when they aren’t paying for housing. Much of the housing in the US is still under eviction/foreclosure moratoria, and even that which isn’t will require individual journeys through court systems by landlords to evict their deadbeat tenants. This can take months or more.

Things might change as more deadbeats find their worthless asses out on the street.
