Are there no American nurses?
There are a lot of natural born nurses who would be happy to work if the pay were better and they did not have to get shot up.
We just need more nurses. How long does it take to become an RN? I believe it requires four years in college.
Nurse shortages are nationwide. Lots of demand, just not enough supply.
Not if they refuse to be vaccinated. Another large hospital system in Michigan will be importing docs and nurses to replace the ones who refuse to be vaccinated and will either quit or be fired.
The Hospital systems are firing them all as fast as they can import obedient, cheap replacements.
Many, perhaps a majority, are natural born Americans. Thus it makes sense to recruit from the Phillipines as there are no visa issues, just the expenses of relocating. They grow up fluent in English, and for many of these English is there first language.
She lives in Canada and commutes to her job in Detroit. Yes, the border is open for some people.
Estimates are that up to 25% of Henry Ford employees are Canadian. There is obviously a huge shortage of nurses in the US. Henry Ford likes to hire Canadian RNs because they are well trained, well educated, and speak very good English. I guess they ran out of Canadians.
