Perhaps it's no surprise, but when it comes time to vote, Canadians are very good about doing it politely, and in queues.
While Americans are still embroiled in a bitter feud over voting rights and the outcome of the 2020 election, their neighbours to the north are hardly breaking a sweat as they head to the polls to vote in their country's general election on 20 September.
Things like widespread advanced voting, mail-in ballots, and federally-run elections seem to make it easier for Canadians to show up at the polls - voter turnout in Canada was higher (62%) than in the US (56%), according to data from Pew Research that looked at the 2016 presidential election and the 2019 Canadian federal election.
Here's a look at some of the ways it's easier to be a voter in Canada than the US.
No one's going to contest the entire election Perhaps the most fundamental difference between Canadian and American elections is that Canadian federal elections are all run by one, non-partisan federal body, Elections Canada, while in the US, elections are run at the state level. That guarantees that a voter in Nova Scotia has the same system as a voter in Nunavut.
In the US, a person's voting rights vary widely state by state.
These myriad rules make it easier for partisanship to creep in, says Matthew Lebo, who teaches political science at the University of Western Ontario in Canada, and specialises in American political systems.
"In Canada everything is done by Elections Canada - it's non-partisan, and they work hard to be non-partisan," he told the BBC.
"In the States, every state is doing it themselves, they are definitely not non-partisan."

Yeah...and Canada’s population is about that of California...
Oh please!
With Democrats around you don’t even have to be legally eligible to vote to vote. Indeed you don’t have to even be alive to vote in some places.
How hard can it be?
This excerpt contains so many lies and non-sequiturs that I won’t even bother to respond.
The more corruption is present, the more controls are needed.
Commies cheat. They must be stopped
Orderly queuing and civic participation will die with heritage Canadians.
“”In Canada everything is done by Elections Canada - it’s non-partisan”
BS. As a former canadian, I know multiple people since the 90’s who worked for them and mostly Tories and Liberal Party toadies aka Democrats of the North. I suspect that’s how TURDeau “won”.
‘’The more corrupt a government the more laws it passes.’’
It was a huge load of BS. I agree with you.
Because Canada is still one of the Whitest countries on the planet, although it is starting to change.
With very few exceptions mail in voting needs to be outlawed. Purple fingers is the way to go!
Subjects versus citizens...
Early voting = Voter fraud
Refusing to cull voter registration lists = Voter fraud
No ID required to register = Voter fraud
No ID required at the polling place = Voter fraud
Ballot harvesting = Voter fraud
Ballot "drop boxes" = Voter fraud
Mail in balloting = *Massive* voter fraud
Registering to vote should require an ID showing citizenship *and* place of residence.ID should be required at the polling place. Voting should occur on *one* day. For an absentee ballot one should go to City/Town Hall, show an ID,and cast their ballot then and there. No mail in ballots...no drop boxes...no ballot harvesting. And there must *always* be monitors from *both* parties present, and nearby,*whenever* and *wherever* ballots are being counted.
And to claim that those delicate, helpless, little black folks can't *possibly* abide by these rules is despicable beyond words.
The Dems. need mail in voters to manipulate the outcome of the vote.
More cats and dogs have voted in the U.S. than in Canada.
Rigging is much easier for one party.
